Job summary HCA Surgical Inpatient PhlebotomistsHours: 18 hoursShifts required Monday to Sunday - 2:30pm to cover a 7 day service on a rota.Location: WorcesterJob Description: We are currently seeking dedicated and skilled HCA Phlebotomists to join our Surgical Division at Worcester Royal Hospital.
As a Phlebotomist in the surgical wards, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient collection of blood samples from patients 7 days a week.
Your responsibilities will include: Collecting blood samples with precision and care.
Collaborating with the medical team to prioritise and organise sample collections.
Ensuring correct labelling and documentation of samples.
Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
For more information regarding the role, please contact ward manager Amy Clarke via email at: Main duties of the job Demonstrate competency as a phlebotomist for inpatientsResponsible for day to day management for the taking of phlebotomyproceduresWorking with the ward managersTo co-ordinate the tasks required of the Phlebotomy team on thesurgical inpatient wardsTo mentor, supervise and teach new members of the Phlebotomy team Participate in service development Assist with the production and modification of Standard OperatingproceduresThe post holder will prioritise and visit the wards on a dailybasis, in order to collect blood samples as requested by the clinical teams The post holder will liaise with clinical and nursing teams and beaware of ward rules and procedures such as consultant rounds, treatments andprotected meal times, which may require a modification in the phlebotomyschedules The post holder will assess and confirm the patients identitymatches that on the request form, following trust policy.The post holder will ensure accurate and legible labelling ofspecimen tubes, following the Trust Policy The post holder will inform the clinical staff and document on bloodrequest form if it was not possible to obtain a blood sample.
Carry the In-House Phlebotomy bleep at all times ensuring it isanswered in a timely manner and address all issues raised through this, keepingaccurate records and escalating to a manager where needed.

Any discrepanciesmust be reported to the appropriate clinician or nurse in charge The post holder will reassure the patient and alleviate anyanxieties relating to the collection of blood and formally ask for permissionto collect the blood specimen.
If the patient refuses, the post holder must endthe procedure and report to the appropriate clinician or nurse in charge,documenting the refusal.
The post holder will ascertain the specimen requirements andcollect blood by venepuncture into appropriate containers The post holder will ensure accurate and legible labelling ofspecimen tubes, following the Trust Policy The post holder will inform the clinical staff and document on bloodrequest form if it was not possible to obtain a blood sample.
The post holder will ensure that specimens are sent to thelaboratory by the POD system or in person.
The post holder will dispose of clinical waste in line with TrustPolicies Carry the In-House Phlebotomy bleep at all times ensuring it isanswered in a timely manner and address all issues raised through this, keepingaccurate records and escalating to a manager where needed.Risk Assessment Thepost involves manual handling activities, exposure to bodily fluids andexposure to high noise levels.
It may also involve exposure to challengingbehaviour.
