Job summary We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated midwife to lead our co-located Serenity Birthing Centre and be an advocate for midwifery care within the core and community settings.The post holder will be passionate about maternity care and will be required to work closely with the Consultant midwife and community teams to support women and birthing people with their birth preferences Main duties of the job The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management, clinical leadership and standards of the midwifery services, including all staff groups, students and visitors within the Birthing Unit.
The Birthing Unit is a co-located unit with direct access to Princess Alexandra Hospital's Labour Ward.
The post holder will be expected to lead their team, team build, organise others in their actions and set priorities, objectives and goals within their sphere of responsibility.
This includes performance management of both the activity and members of the Birthing Unit team.
As a member of the senior Management team the post holder will act as bleep holder for the maternity unit as required and take part in the Maternity Manager on call rota.
The Birthing Unit Manager will be faced with many competing demands for attention and will be expected to exercise excellent judgement in dealing with both clinical and interpersonal challenges.
About us Our Organisation The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford, and St Margaret's Hospital in Epping.
We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop's Stortford and Epping.
Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.
