Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated specialist physiotherapist to work within the established Paediatric Physiotherapy service based from Platt Bridge Health Centre.
This is a permanent part time post ( hours) to be worked across Monday to Friday.
The successful applicant will provide highly specialist physiotherapeutic assessment, treatment and management of children with neurodevelopmental conditions, rare and diverse disorders; complex physical needs; specific learning difficulties; respiratory disorders and assessment of normal development.
The paediatrics team cover all ages from neonates (pre term and full term) to 19 years old.
There is a strong support and advisory element within this role and the successful applicant will offer clinical and managerial supervision to more junior staff and our physiotherapy students.
Main duties of the job To perform specialist physiotherapeutic assessment, treatment and management for children 0-19 presenting with a wide range of neurological, respiratory and orthopaedic conditions in a variety of settings.To determine clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment indicated and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
This will be undertaken as a lone practitioner (in community, and hospital settings, within local guidelines.To train, supervise and clinically support junior staff, assistants and students.

Job description Job responsibilities Clinical To act as a source of expertise, demonstrate advanced knowledge, skills and experience in the management of complex caseloads.
To provide carers, relatives, junior grade staff, assistants, students, health/social/educational colleagues with education, training, monitoring and emotional support as required.
To provide supervision, mentorship, training and support for colleagues and newly qualified therapists and assistants as per professional guidance To work as a lone practitioner in community settings.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
To promote and provide best practice, highly specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment of children with a variety of complex needs (including chronic, disabling and life limiting conditions) To support less experienced staff in supporting complex cases ensuring they deliver high quality interventions To ensure that clients / parents / teachers are involved in the planning and implementation of treatment programmes To demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning skills and specialist paediatric training, analysis of parental feedback of information re: birth history and previous developmental history, and to interpret other medical investigations to support accurate diagnosis of condition.
To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory skills to enable accurate assessment of the patients condition and deliver effective treatment.
To develop and deliver an individual treatment plan, based on highly specialist skills and knowledge, measuring and evaluating outcomes To work as an autonomous practitioner being professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of your work.
To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload ensuring a high standard of clinical care.
To work as a lone practitioner in a variety of settings schools, clinics, domiciliary.
To supervise and educate physiotherapy assistants to deliver individual programmes.
To supervise and educate others in day to day therapeutic handling skills and, where appropriate, to educate them to deliver a treatment programme school staff, parents/carers.
To monitor and revise this as appropriate.
To assess the need for orthoses ( walking splints/ankle foot orthoses); mobility aids ( frames); and appliances (standing frames, specialist seating).
To identify and request equipment, with training to parents/staff in their use.
To then monitor condition and use of such.
To assess capacity to give consent and gain valid informed consent working within the legal framework.
To identify goals of treatment following discussion with child/parents/carers.
To manage clinical risk within own caseload, assessing manual handling techniques, environment, equipment, and siblings of patient.
To routinely handle patients with unpredictable movements, providing physical support and ensuring safety.
Daily moving and handling of patients and equipment including frequent changing of positions from standing to sitting/crawling whilst facilitating the patient to do such.
To be able to work with children and adolescents who may be ventilated, on oxygen; may have gastrostomies (abdominal feeding tubes); and who may be doubly incontinent and to be able to identify distress, compromised respiratory status and seizure and deal with such.
To assess and discuss equipment needs for home with occupational therapists.
To carry out assessments and interventions independently or jointly with other health or partner agency colleagues as appropriate.
To attend case conferences, reviews and meetings when appropriate.
To assist in the transition planning process as required in collaboration with appropriate agencies.
To provide highly specialist advice to other members of the MDT regarding the physiotherapy management of patients with complex problems to ensure holistic care.
To represent at health panels where required.
To be responsible for physiotherapy students and the assessment of their clinical practice.
To be able to advise on postural positioning for use of AAC.
To discharge appropriately agreeing a point of closure with the parents and child and informing other professionals as appropriate.
Continuing Professional Development You are required to comply with relevant NHS codes of conduct and accountability, and professional codes of conduct appropriate to this role.
You are required to take responsibility for your own development including ensuring you attend all statutory and mandatory training, maintaining personal development records and taking an active role within personal development processes.
To follow standards and protocols of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and local policies and standards.
To maintain your registration with the HCPC and comply with their requirements in compiling your portfolio.
To take a lead in the evaluation of service provision and clinical working practices using evidence based practice and audit, implementing changes when appropriate.
To be active in in-service training to the team by attending sessions and delivering training to other multi-disciplinary team members re physiotherapy in paediatrics.
To work as lead physiotherapist actively participating in multidisciplinary work in child health, by attending staff meetings, case conferences and feedback clinics thus ensuring efficient service delivery and promoting paediatric service changes if agreed.
To participate in the staff appraisal scheme as both appraisee and appraiser (when appropriate).
To be independently responsible for seeking advice on problems or conditions via peers or clinical management or research.
To supervise junior staff or students re: clinical development when in post.
To act as Deputy for Head of Service as representative for physiotherapy service at agreed meetings/events.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy.
Registered with the Health Care Professions Council.
CSP membership or other body providing appropriate insurance.
Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to masters level equivalent.
Evidence of CPD at post-graduate level.
Desirable Experience at Band 7 level Experience Essential Extensive postgraduate experience, including substantial experience working in community paediatrics.
Significant experience in neurodevelopmental/ orthopaedics /musculoskeletal /respiratory physiotherapy To be a member of CSP Specialist Interest Group related to area of specialism.
Desirable Supervisory skills.
Experience working on neonatal unit Skills Essential Specialist knowledge and experience of paediatric physiotherapy and special needs using neurodevelopmental / appropriate treatment approach.
Evidence of training to a post-graduate level in an advanced area of clinical practice.
Ability to work independently Excellent interpersonal skills.
Good time management.
Desirable IT literate Experience of audit Knowledge Essential Extensive knowledge of childhood development Knowledge of specialist equipment and competence in prescribing and maintaining equipment.
Working knowledge of National Curriculum and competence to give professional advice towards the process of EHC plans.
Ability to pass on skills and training to others.
