Vat Associate Director
About the department When you become part of our Indirect Tax team, you'll discover a culture celebrating individuality, fresh thinking, flexibility and collaboration, whilst not only embracing change but impacting it. We're simply not a one-size-fits-all firm and work hard to create an environment where our people can make a difference - to themselves, their career, their teams, and to the success of RSM and our clients.
Real Estate Team RSM's specialist Real Estate Tax team advises a diverse range of both UK and international clients, ranging from property entrepreneurs and family-owned businesses to large scale property developers, institutional property investors, real estate funds and housebuilders. Our clients operate across all sectors of real estate and construction including commercial, residential, student housing, logistics, retail and leisure and hospitality.
Our Real Estate and Construction VAT specialists work closely with colleagues in the wider Real Estate and Construction team to support clients with the VAT aspects of Real Estate transactions, acquisition and development structuring, due diligence and restructuring work.
As a result of the growth of the VAT practice as a whole and demand for VAT support in the Real Estate and construction space, we are looking for an Associate Director to join the team specifically to focus on Real Estate and Construction.
Our team works on a national basis, and so the base office of the successful individual can be flexible.
About the role You will work closely with the Real Estate VAT Director and Partner to support clients on a wide range of Real Estate and construction matters. One day you could be advising an investor on a multi-million pound property acquisition and the next day you could be delivering training to finance and commercial teams at a housebuilder client. It is safe to say no two days are the same
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team at an exciting part of the journey, working on a hybrid basis and reaping the rewards of working both at home and in the office. The variety of projects will challenge you every day, helping you expand your capabilities and grow professionally. You'll have plenty of opportunity to broaden your horizons and discover a culture that nurtures individuality and celebrates fresh thinking, giving you a real opportunity to influence the way in which the team develops.
Responsibilities: Managing client relationships and acting as the principal point of contact for clients in respect of VAT issues and queries. Delivering practical and commercial VAT advice to clients on land and property matters. Working alongside the wider Real Estate tax specialists to provide VAT input into tax structuring and Real Estate tax due diligence projects. Developing the more junior team, including delegation of appropriate work, on-the-job coaching and more formal feedback. Working alongside the Real Estate VAT Director and Partner to actively assist in business development including proposal preparation for new work and building relationships with clients and targets. About the ideal candidate The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working at Manager or Associate Director level within VAT, as well as previous experience of winning work and/or the ability to unlock fees from the existing client base. You will be confident in helping to develop junior members of staff and driving forward a good team environment. In particular you will demonstrate:
CTA qualified is preferred or equivalent. Previous experience operating at Associate Director level (or equivalent) is necessary, or can demonstrate the skill set required to undertake the role. Good knowledge and understanding of the VAT issues for clients in the Real Estate and Construction sector, either in a specialist capacity or as a part of a broader role. Ability to work independently, as well as part of a national team. Proven experience in client handling and building good relationships. Embraces an inclusive approach to people development and supervision, demonstrating strong coaching abilities. Business development experience and/or interest in this aspect is advantageous but not essential. Diversity and Inclusion at RSM At RSM, we want to create a strong sense of belonging so that people of all identities, backgrounds, and cultures feel they can bring their true self to work. Our clients come from all walks of life. We aim to achieve that same diversity of background, experience and perspective in our own teams, so that we can genuinely understand our client's needs. Diverse teams bring a broader range of ideas and insights to work. That's why we're working together to ensure our firm's principles and processes support a firm culture that embraces difference and strengthens inclusion.
