TheHaematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service is one of the largest specialistHaematopathology laboratories in Europe and currently serves a population of 6million across the North of England.
The laboratory has extensive facilitiesand has high levels of expertise in flow cytometry, molecular diagnostics,immunohistology and informatics.
The service provides fully integratedreporting compliant with the improving outcomes guidance.
There is an activeprogramme of research and development across many areas of this service whichincludes involvement in national and international clinical trials.
A majorpriority is developing diagnostic platforms to support precision medicine andseveral initiatives are underway.If shortlisted, you will be required togive a 10-minute presentation on:"The opportunities and challenges of an integratedhaematopathology service".INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD VIA MS TEAMS: 27January 2025 Main duties of the job Thesuccessful candidate will play a full part in the provision of the diagnosticservice, including support of multi-disciplinary teams across the region andwill be expected to contribute fully to the research and development plan forthe department.
This will offer the opportunity to develop personal researchand clinical interests.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team of7 consultants (including this post) and 6 consultant and principal gradeclinical scientists.Thesuccessful applicant should possess FRCPath (or equivalent)and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT atthe time of interview, if currently within a training programme within theUK.
In accordance with the consultantappointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on theSpecialist Register.
This post issuitable for candidates from either a histopathology or haematology backgroundwho have skills and expertise in diagnostic Haematopathology.
The post willrequire active engagement in research and development and prior experience andspecialist expertise in a particular area is highly desirable.
A strong commitment to undergraduate andpostgraduate teaching is required.Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

Financiallysustainable Job description Job responsibilities In relation to this post, this appointment is for aConsultant Haematopathologist and is a new post following a reconfiguration ofservices internally in our Haematology department.
An individual from a purelypathology background interested in working wholly in Haematopathology wouldalso be eligible to apply and in this instance, the clinical aspects of thepost described below could be negotiable.
This is a 10 PA appointment to workas part of the consultant team providing haematology services within the trustand in particular, will be involved in the provision of specialist diagnosticservices within the Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service (HMDS).The post will be based in Bexley Wing at St JamessUniversity Hospital.
HMDS is an internationally renowned haematopathologycentre serving a population of 6 million across the North of England, and isone of the largest services of its kind in Europe.
The department provides afully integrated service compliant with the current improving outcome guidance.The department has excellent facilities for flow cytometry, the full range ofmolecular diagnostics including array based expression profiling and SNPanalysis and next generation sequencing, immunohistology and informatics andthe appointed person would have full access to all these specialised services.
The post holder will work within an experienced team ofaround 100 staff including 7 consultants and 6 principal and consultant gradeclinical scientists to process greater than 40000 specimens per year.
Theduties will include the final reporting of specimens received within thelaboratory (bone marrow, peripheral blood and lymph node biopsies being themost common specimen categories), provision of specialist advice on diagnosticproblems and participation in haematology multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Theywill be expected to have or develop an area of specialist diagnostic expertisethat is complementary with other members of the team.
It would be expected thatthe appointee would develop and participate in relevant research anddevelopment within these areas.
It is intended that thepost holder will participate in the delivery of haematology clinical servicesto a degree commensurate with their above laboratory based duties and theirprevious experience and qualifications.
The clinical aspects of the post arenegotiable depending on the candidates background.
The clinical duties are notexpected to include responsibility for in-patient care.The successful candidate will be part of a large and established consultantgroup delivering the full breadth of haematology services across Yorkshire andbeyond with extensive research activity.

The title of Honorary Senior Lecturer at Leeds University MedicalSchool will also be offered.
On-call dutieswill be for the HMDS laboratory only.
There is no requirement forclinical on-call cover.
Person Specification Management, Interpersonal Skills & Other Essential Understanding of current issues in the NHS.

*Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process.
CESR applicants must be on the relevant Specialist Register at the time of application.
Desirable Attendance at recognised management course.
Qualifications Essential MB BS or equivalent.
FRCPath in Haematology or Histopathology or evidence of equivalent qualification.
Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM TO BE CONSIDERED.
Eligibility to work in the UK.
Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Desirable MRCP or show evidence of equivalent qualification.
Higher degree MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty.
Experience Essential Must be able to demonstrate expertise in the laboratory diagnosis of haematological malignancy and related disorders.
Specifically, applicant must demonstrate higher subspecialty training in haematopathology.
Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
Desirable Demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Clinical and Laboratory Haematology Training, Research, Teaching & Audit Essential Should have completed a recognised training programme in either Haematology or Histopathology.
Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
Desirable Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
