Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Ophthalmic Technician to join the Optometry Department in Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB.As an Ophthalmic Technician you will work closely with Ophthalmology doctors, Orthoptics, Optometrists, Technicians and with the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide visual fields and ophthalmic diagnostics for patients attending the eye department.
You will provide vital clinical information needed for the doctors to make a diagnosis and a correct treatment plan for patients' eye conditions.
You will need to have good communication skills, good time management, prioritisation skills and have a flexible approach to work.
Experience in working in a clinical environment would be an advantage.You will be working directly with patients, undertaking visual field tests and auxiliary ophthalmic diagnostics, including imaging and visual acuity tests, following competency-based training.
This role includes dealing directly with patients to capture these important diagnostic eye tests, so a compassionate and friendly nature is essential.
You will need to have great communication skills, be computer literate, detail-oriented, and able to juggle your own time.
The post holder will be based at the Glaucoma Diagnostic Hub at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon but will be required to support the wider team at different hospital sites as needed.You will receive full training and be expected to take an active role in your continuous personal development.
Main duties of the job To work as part of the Optometry team to undertake visual field, diagnostic ophthalmic imaging and visual acuity testing and also administrative tasks, following standard operating procedures and responding flexibly to the needs of the service.
Support the Optometry staff by assisting with some modalities of optometric interventions.
Participate in capture/provision of relevant data which may be for the benefit of patients or the Optometry department.
Monitor stocks of equipment and ensure appropriate supplies are ordered.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
