Financial Controller Construction/Manufacturing Company Rochester, Kent (Office based) c£70,000/annum + Benefits A dynamic, commercially minded Financial Controller is sought to play a critical role in driving financial success and support the senior management team as the company embarks on a new phase of growth.
The Group operates throughout London and the South East, working with Tier 1 Contractors and House Builders.
The Financial Controller will: Work closely with the Managing Director, the board, and other directors, to provide financial leadership.
Oversee all financial activities of the company and help drive future growth.
Work closely with the Commercial Director ensuring effective project management and implementing strategies to promote long-term business success.
Manage, develop and mentor the finance team.
Key responsibilities for the Financial Controller include: Financial Reporting & Analysis – prepare financial monthly statements, KPIs, and forecasts, to present at monthly Board meetings.
Budgeting & Forecasting - support long-term strategic planning for both projects, and revenue, costs, and cash flow.
Cost Management & Control - implement effective cost control measures for construction projects, liaising closely with the Commercial Director.
Cash Flow Management – manage liquidity for project requirements and maintain relationships with financial institutions to meet funding requirements.
Compliance & Audit - coordinate the annual audit and ensure full compliance with financial regulations and submissions (including VAT, CIS, and payroll requirements).
Tax Planning & Management - Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns and implement tax-efficient strategies considering the tax implications of project contracts.
Risk Management – ensure the presence of robust financial controls to identify, manage and mitigate the financial risks relating to construction projects.
The Financial Controller duties will also include: Business Partnering – Work closely with the Commercial Director and MD to manage construction project profitability (through adequate project-based accounting systems), provide strategic input and due diligence for potential new projects and associated project risks.
Team Management & Development – Manage, develop and mentor the finance team (3 Assistant Accountants/Management Account).
Strategic Planning & Advisory - Work closely with the Director Shareholders on future business strategies, succession planning, and personal tax matters.
Suitable candidates for the Financial Controller position will: Be a qualified accountant with experience of leading a finance team in a construction or manufacturing environment.
Have knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), VAT in construction, and other industry-specific regulations.
Have experience using Sage 200, Excel, and other accounting software relevant to project-based accounting.
Have commercial acumen and an analytical approach – with a strong understanding of construction contracts, project-based accounting, and risk management Be dynamic and strategic in nature – to support the Board as the company embarks on a new phase of growth.
