This is a rotational post,offering you the chance to expand your skill set across a variety oforthopaedic inpatient areas, including both trauma and elective orthopaedics.
Main duties of the job Asthe successful candidate, youll have the opportunity to take charge of yourown caseload providing assessment and treatment to patients, with a chance tooffer physiotherapy and, on occasion, occupational therapy support, all withinthe framework of established protocols or with guidance from our expert team.Butthat's not all you'll also play a key role in administrative and housekeepingduties, ensuring smooth operations behind the scenes.

Job description Job responsibilities ClinicalAssistthe therapy staff in the rehabilitation of patients using a range of delegatedtherapy treatmentsTomanage the rehabilitation of patients as delegated by the therapist this willinvolve working without direct progress, progressing treatment as appropriatewithin set protocols and reporting back to the referring therapist.Treatpatients individually or in a group in a variety of settings without the directsupervision of a therapist in the department or ward.
To undertake highlyskilled support work mobility assessments where analysis of gait/stabilityis necessary to decide on appropriate prescription of walking aid or how bestto progress rehabilitationEncouragingpatients and their carers in an active approach to regaining and maintainingpersonal independence.
This requires empathy sensitivity and good interpersonalskillsUseeffective communication tools verbal and non-verbal to communicate treatmentprogrammes to patients who may have barriers to understanding or communicatingToliaise with the therapist as necessary regarding patient care.
In particularhighlighting any variations to expected outcomes from treatment programmes youdeliverToundertake patient home visits to inform safe and affective discharge planning Whenapplicable liaise with nursing colleagues and members of MDT Inorder to facilitate patient treatment effective handling skills dexterityand co-ordination will be requiredContributeto the development of service provision and clinical care by attendingappropriate meetings as directedEducationand TrainingInstructpatient and carers, providing direction and guidance on a range of therapyactivities as part of own clinical work or as directed by the therapistToattend in-service training as requiredUponappointment the post holder is required to attend a period of induction whichwill be supplemented with on the job training including formal teaching andsupervised practiceToactively participate in the delivery of training to newly appointedphysiotherapy assistants inducting them to the department or basicelements of patience care.Professionaland ManagerialAsa member of the clinical team you will be required to ensure that you complywith policy and service development changesTobe responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through continuedProfessional Development activities and maintain a portfolio which reflectsyour own personal developmentTocommunicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical nursing andtherapy colleagues to ensure delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinaryserviceToparticipate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraise and be responsible forcomplying with your agreed personal development objectives to meet setcompetenciesOrganisationalTobe responsible for the safe use if therapy equipment by patients in your carethrough teaching, training and supervision of practiceMakeaccurate records of work undertaken and keep monthly statistics as requiredTobe aware of Health and Safety aspects of your work and follow any relevantpolicies Tocomply with the organisational and departmental policies and proceduresToundertake any other duties that might be considered appropriate by the ClinicalPhysiotherapy Manager or the Head of Physiotherapy Person Specification Qualifications Essential Level 3 qualification in relevant health care related subject GCSE English and Maths (min grade C/4) or functional skills equivalent Completion of CARE certificate.
Otherwise this will be a mandatory training requirement during first 3 months of employment Desirable Evidence of attendance at relevant training courses Experience Essential Experience of team and independent working Previous experience working as a physiotherapy assistant or in a care setting An understanding of the role of the physiotherapist Health and safety awareness Desirable An understanding of the needs of patients with disability or handicap Knowledge and understanding of the clinical speciality Skills and Behaviours Essential Professional hard working and flexible with a positive attitude Able to use own initiative as appropriate and seek assistance when required Able to demonstrate empathy and compassion to service users Able to take direction Other Criteria Essential Able to learn from staff at all levels
