Langford Vets are pleased to be able to offer a 4-year residency position in Cardiology in a programme approved by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
You will be part of a strong and supportive cardiology team, working with other specialties within the truly multidisciplinary Small Animal Referral Hospital.
The programme will include clinical training at the highest level (echocardiography, interventional cardiology and other specialist techniques), dedicated journal clubs and teaching time, and ample research opportunities.
You will be primarily be involved in clinical work and are expected to study for the ACVIM Diploma in Cardiology.
Other duties include on-clinics teaching and mentoring of final year vet students.
During the programme, you will be expected to present a research abstract at an international meeting and submit work for publication as first author.
Applicants must have worked in general practice and ideally undertaken a rotating internship prior to being considered, in addition to having demonstrated a passion for veterinary cardiology.
Role summary: Temporary, fixed term 4 year contract. Up to 1:4 on-call, including weekends and week-nights.

To provide excellent care for patients of the small animal hospital. To provide excellent client care and communication for owners. To participate in running of the Cardiology service at Langford Vets, through supervised case management, patient handling, administrative and organisational duties, teaching and research. To communicate and liaise effectively with clinicians and nurses working within both the Cardiology service and other services within the hospital, to ensure continuity of case care and transfer of clinically important information. To meet the requirements for credentials set by ACVIM in order to sit the cardiology board-certification examination. To participate in research and scientific training alongside clinical work. Principal Accountabilities :
To provide appropriate diagnostics and patient care for cardiology patients under a suitable level of supervision by Diplomates and to the standards expected by the RCVS. Take part in a shared 1 in 4 out of hours rota for cardiology, with backup from senior members of staff To record all case records accurately and communicate clearly with colleagues, owners and referring veterinarians. To ensure that client consent is gained as necessary and that they are aware of and kept up to date with treatment costs. To ensure that laboratory findings are reported to clients and referring vets. To ensure queries from referring clients and pet owners are answered in an appropriate and timely way. To contribute to journal club, book club, resident rounds and other scholarly activities on a shared rota To have students assigned to you on their clinical rotations and on EMS as required. Undertake formal teaching of undergraduate veterinary students and student nurses To contribute to the assessment and delivery of appraisals of students on their practical rotation when applicable. To ensure the correct pricing and charging of all procedures. To follow all LV protocols and policies. To undertake any reasonable requests made by your Manager. More than one year working as veterinary surgeon
