Senior Accountant

The ideal candidate will have substantial exposure to monthly closing processes, forecasting and budgeting, and customer billing.
They will be organised and approach each issue with an analytical mindset.
Responsibilities Finance Management: Ensure the accuracy of daily financial records, including income, payments, purchases, and nominal ledger entries.
Oversee the month-end close process, including preparing journals, reviewing debtors and creditors, and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
Assist with the external audit process at year-end.
Collaborate with the Head of Programme and Programme Managers to manage and monitor grant funding agreements and contracts.
Ensure the implementation of all financial policies, internal controls, and procedures.
Assist in preparing the annual budget, providing support and advice to the Leadership Team in compiling departmental budgets.
Maintain and update the fixed asset register, conducting fixed asset audits as needed.
Reporting: Prepare monthly management accounts, forecasts, and related reports for the management team.
Assist with the preparation of Board reports.
Support with KPI tracking and ad-hoc analysis as required.
Aid in the year-end external audit process.
Payroll: Oversee payroll processing, coordinating with other departments to gather necessary information, such as timesheets and sick leave data.
Process salary journals.
Ensure timely completion of all statutory reports (including monthly and year-end submissions to HMRC), in line with official requirements.
Manage the pension scheme.
Other: Act as a deputy in the absence of the Head of Finance & Business Development.
Collaborate closely with the Head of Finance & Business Development to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations within the finance department and take on ad-hoc tasks as needed.
Participate in training and performance management processes.
Perform additional duties as reasonably assigned by the Company.
Provide mentoring and guidance to a team of Accounts Assistants when required.
Qualifications Essential Criteria: The applicant must provide evidence of the following qualifications and experience: Qualifications and Experience: Fully qualified accountant with membership from a recognized accounting body (e.g., Institute of Chartered Accountants, CIMA, ACCA) 3 years' + experience in a similar finance role, demonstrating expertise in at least 4 of the following areas: -Monthly/periodic reporting to budget holders -Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis -Managing and claiming grant funding -Cash flow management, including debt collection -Payroll processing -Or: At least 5 years' experience in a similar finance role, with proficiency in at least 4 of the above areas.
Strong Financial Analytical Skills: Proven ability to apply a logical, methodical, and accurate approach to problem-solving.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent skills in building and maintaining effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including a diverse range of audiences.
Organisational and Time Management Skills: Strong ability to prioritise tasks, work independently and as part of a team, meet tight deadlines, and maintain accuracy.
Technical Proficiency: Extensive experience using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Legal Right to Work in the UK.
Desirable Criteria: Experience in grant administration and reporting to funders.
Proficiency in using Sage Line 50 accounting software.
Experience with fundraising databases.
