Join Birmingham City Council as a Housing Regulatory Compliance Apprentice and play a key role in supporting the implementation of the Renters Rights Act. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in housing enforcement, property licensing, and regulatory compliance while working towards a nationally recognised qualification through your apprenticeship.You will work closely with our experienced Private Sector Housing team, gaining real-world experience in property inspections, housing standards enforcement, licensing schemes, and tackling rogue landlords. You’ll support investigations, assist with legal notices, and engage with tenants, landlords, and partner agencies.What You’ll Do…Respond to queries from residents, landlords, and tenants about housing standards and licensing.Conduct inspections of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and assess compliance with housing legislation.Investigate complaints and take action to ensure tenant safety and landlord accountability.Provide advice and guidance to landlords on meeting regulatory requirements.Draft enforcement notices and support legal proceedings, including tribunal or court attendance.Maintain accurate records and use digital tools for audits and data management.Attend workshops and complete learning modules as part of your apprenticeship.What We’re Looking ForHighly motivated individuals with strong communication and organisational skills and a genuine interest in protecting public health and safetyA genuine interest in housing regulation.GCSE Grade 4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths (or willingness to undertake Functional Skills).Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Good IT and digital literacy.Attention to detail and organisational skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Professional judgement, resilience, and an empathetic approach.What You’ll GainA Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer qualification.Practical experience in housing regulation and enforcement.Pastoral support and access to CSA’s Employee Assistance Programme.At least 20% of your working hours dedicated to off-the-job training.Potential progression into permanent roles within the Regulation & Enforcement Division.Apply today and help us make Birmingham’s housing safer and fairer for everyonePlease upload your up-to-date CV via the attachments part of your application, this is required for shortlisting.
