Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Buckinghamshire on site 4 days pwCopello are working with a defence client who are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to design, develop and maintain complex defence systems and products. This includes defence standard communications, navigation and electronic warfare equipment for use in demanding aerospace environments.As a Principal Mechanical Engineer you role would provide innovative solutions to challenging design problems. This covers the full development lifecycle from requirements capture, system level design, concept development, simulation, prototyping, optimisation and verification.This role also includes the line management of the mechanical design team, providing expert technical guidance and pastoral care as a capability lead within the business unit.Key responsibilitiesSupport the generation of new business by managing bids, developing concept designs, task estimation and generating proposalsDesign, develop and test innovative solutions to avionics design problemsMaintain knowledge on emerging technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into product designsRequirements analysisGenerate documentation to support product development, qualification and verificationSupport the qualification and review of designs to requirements, this will include formal testing and analysisSupport, develop and mentor mechanical design engineers in the business unit Line management of a team of Mechanical Engineers: resource allocation and work package managementQualification and experience Educated to degree level in a relevant Engineering fieldStrong theoretical and practical mechanical design experienceStrong experience of environmental testing of aerospace productsUnderstanding of FEA and CFD toolsChartered Engineer status (or working towards)Requirements management experienceProject management experienceA broad understanding of materials, treatments and finishes and their environmental implicationsExperience of developing mechanical design solutions through entire design lifecycleExcellent communication skillsDesign for Manufacture and AssemblyPlease note that SC Clearance must be obtainable for this role If you feel you have the right skills and experience please apply now, or send your CV to emmaw@copello.co.uk
