Head of Civil Engineering / Design Manager– Grid Connections & Battery StorageLocation: London (Office-based with flexibility)Salary Package: Up to £110,000Do you lead civil and structural design teams on power and energy projects?Do you have experience managing design for DNO / ICP grid connections, substations or cable routes?Are you ready to grow a civil engineering function with future scope in the UK, USA and Australia?Turner Lovell is recruiting a Head of Civil Engineering for our client to lead their civil and structural design capability from their office in South London.Our client is a major utilities and energy contractor delivering DNO and ICP grid connections, battery storage, high-voltage substation and transmission cable projects. This role will provide leadership to a team of around 15 civil and structural engineers, setting standards, building capability and supporting projects typically ranging from £40m to £100m in value.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and develop a team of ~20 civil and structural design engineers and technicians.Oversee delivery of civil and structural designs for DNO / ICP connections, battery storage sites, HV substations and transmission cable routes.Act as the civil design authority (CDAE), ensuring safe, compliant and buildable solutions.Set and maintain design standards, processes and governance across all civil design activities.Work closely with project, electrical and construction teams to support tenders and live projects.Ensure designs comply with CDM and relevant UK and international standards.Support the growth of civil design offering into new markets, including USA and Australia.Contribute to resource planning, budgeting and performance management for the civil design team.Ideal CandidateExtensive experience in civil and structural design within the power, electricity or renewable energy sectors.Background as a Civil Design Manager, Head of Civil Design, or similar senior design leadership role.Proven track record delivering designs for grid connections, substations, cable routes or battery storage projects.Strong understanding of DNO / ICP requirements and transmission / distribution infrastructure.Experience acting as a CDAE or similar accountable design authority.In-depth knowledge of CDM regulations and relevant industry standards.Ideally chartered (ICE or IStructE) or working towards chartership.Excellent leadership and communication skills with a focus on team development and high performance.This is an excellent opportunity to shape and grow the civil engineering function within a leading utilities and energy contractor, with a clear pathway to expand into international markets.For more information or to apply, please contact Curtis Thompson or Anusha Gopalan via email at anusha.gopalan@turnerlovell.com or call+44 20 7448 1100#LI-CT1
