Job Description

Heriot Brown Legal recruitment have been tasked to find a Senior Legal Counsel for a major multi-national energy company.


This position will support the company in delivering IT, Intellectual Property, data, privacy and commercial legal advice to the business, including review of contracts, strategies and internal arrangements


Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions


  • Drafting, negotiating and providing advice on a broad spectrum of commercial and IT agreements, including services and supply agreements, framework agreements, software licences, software development agreements, technology licence agreements, SaaS/PaaS/IaaS agreements, Cloud / on-prem agreements, support and maintenance agreements, data sharing agreements and other relevant IT agreements.
  • Negotiating intellectual property license agreements, including tri-partite NDAs for the purposes of agreeing IP sharing arrangements.
  • Protecting the company's intellectual property and ensuring that the company does not infringe the intellectual property of others, managing complex intellectual property licence agreements.
  • Manage aspects of IP and trademark protection and enforcement.
  • Provide expert legal advice on data protection laws, including UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, EU GDPR, PECR and other relevant privacy legislation.
  • Advising the data protection function on, among other areas, data protection impact assessments, data breaches, data subject rights requests and transfer impact assessments. Supporting on drafting and advising on privacy notices, data sharing agreements and associated communications, including with the regulator. Advising the DPO directly on key data protection issues that arise.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications

The post holder is required to be admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales or equivalent common law jurisdiction.


Knowledge & Experience

The post holder should have excellent working knowledge and experience in the following areas:


  • Relevant post qualification experience as a solicitor or barrister admitted in England and Wales, or equivalent qualification.
  • Significant experience working as a Commercial Technology Lawyer (expected to be 6+ years, all relevant experience considered).
  • Familiarity with Privacy and Cyber Security issues a plus.
  • In-house experience desirable.
