AUTOMATIK VFX and THE POST REPUBLIC operate from multiple studios under one mindset, both in London and Berlin. In London we have two neighbouring studios in Shoreditch, just 10 minutes from Old Street station. We hope you enjoy working here as much as we do


The Work

Operating mostly as the sole vendor we cover everything from conceptual design pre-shoot, through post-vis to the final delivered VFX, the image and sound - our creative team is constantly pushing boundaries, creating extraordinary images and incredible creatures to rival the world’s largest VFX and post houses and capture the imagination of global audiences.

We are an award winning studio; we create outstanding and varied content for some of the biggest names in the global entertainment industry, including BBC, Disney +, Amazon Studios, Pandora Films, Paramount and Sky to name but a few.


The Job

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Compositor to join our team at Automatik. As a Senior Compositor, you will play a crucial role in shaping the visual quality and creative direction of high-end visual effects for feature films and television projects. You will work closely with the VFX Supervisors, Compositing Leads, and other departments to seamlessly integrate live-action footage, 2D/3D elements, and computer-generated imagery (CGI), ensuring the highest technical and aesthetic standards are met.


Responsibilities

  • Creative and Technical Execution: Integrate 2D, 3D, and live-action elements into final composites, ensuring creative intent is met while adhering to project deadlines and technical standards.
  • Look Development: Develop and establish looks, solve compositing challenges, and ensure shots meet the artistic and technical goals for the project.
  • Quality Control: Maintain consistency and quality across shots, ensuring uniformity in color, lighting, composition, and overall aesthetic integrity.
  • Problem Solving: Address complex compositing issues, utilising your expertise to provide solutions with minimal supervision, particularly under tight deadlines.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (e.g., lighting, FX, and production) to ensure seamless integration of assets and efficient workflows.


Experience, skills & attributes

  • Experience: At least 7+ years of professional compositing experience in a VFX environment, with a strong portfolio showcasing work on high-end feature films or television projects.
  • Software Proficiency: Expert knowledge of Nuke and a solid understanding of compositing workflows, including multi-pass EXR workflows and CG integration.
  • Artistic Skills: Strong eye for detail, photo-realism, color grading, lighting, composition, and visual storytelling.
  • VFX Pipeline Knowledge: Good understanding of the VFX pipeline, including tracking, matte extraction, roto, paint fixes, color correction, and projection techniques.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently under pressure.

Bonus skills

  • Experience in look development.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based environments and modern VFX workflows.
  • Experience in working with 3D render passes.
