Job Summary:
The NNUH Cardiac Cath Labs consists of 5 labs, coupled with two recovery areas and an elective admissions unit. The department provides elective and emergency services to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. The area undertakes a range of interventions including Angioplasty, Complex Devices, and Electrophysiology services. This is an exciting time for the department with the forthcoming introduction of a hospital-wide EPR system in the pipeline and an active Managed Equipment Service ensuring ongoing refurbishments of the Cath Labs. We are looking for an individual with excellent communication skills and clinical experience in Cath Labs to take the lead on our auditing of patient outcomes and national data set submissions including, MINAP, BCIS, and SSQD. The suitable candidate will need to be able to manage their own time effectively to keep to nationally mandated data submission deadlines. Knowledge and experience of the audit process and understanding of data quality is essential to this position. This is the perfect opportunity to further your analytical skills while maintaining clinical contact in the Cath Labs.

Main Duties of the Job:
This post is a new position, you will work as part of a team overseen by the Cardiology Governance, Education and Audit Lead to ensure that we maintain high standards in our data quality and submissions to national registries. You will use your clinical background to interpret the data and ensure its validity, seeking advice from other clinical staff as required. The post retains a clinical element which is vital to maintain relevant understanding of the procedures and processes that we are collecting data for. The department is a fast-paced innovative unit run by a dedicated group of staff who are passionate about enhancing the quality of care for our patient group. You will be a highly credible practitioner who will be actively involved in the process of quality improvement through the data you collect and interpret, suggesting areas for improvement and leading on the required changes to achieve this.

  1. This role is a new position with room to establish new processes and ideas.
  2. You will be working as part of a large multi-professional team including Doctors, Nurses, Radiographers, Cardiac Physiologists, ODPs, and more.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To undertake prospective collection and validation of in-hospital patient outcomes after admission with NSTEMI/STEMI and percutaneous coronary interventional procedures, under the guidance of the Consultant Lead for PCI audit and Cath Lab Governance, Education and Audit Lead.
  • To review patient notes and extract relevant information regarding reportable complications after PCI procedures or admission with NSTEMI/STEMI, contacting patients for further information if required.
  • To liaise with the Consultant lead for PCI audit and Cath Lab Governance, Education and Audit Lead where necessary to resolve uncertainties about reportable complications.
  • To update the electronic database (Intellect) with patient outcomes after PCI procedures, under the guidance of the cardiology data managers.
  • To assist with the completion, validation and submission of the BCIS, MINAP, HF, and NACR national datasets to the National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR).
  • Ensure maintenance of competence in own clinical background to support the service as required, through undertaking clinical shifts in the Cath Labs as agreed with the Cath Lab Manager.
  • Able to interpret changes in patient physical signs and take appropriate action. Cardiac and Respiratory arrest and resuscitation of patients.
  • Ensure that the care of all patients is assessed, planned, implemented, evaluated, and appropriately documented.
  • Deliver a high-quality service for all patients within sphere of responsibility.
  • Act as a role model and be a credible practitioner within the clinical area.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Clinically registered practitioner.
  • Post-registration/graduate diploma level qualification or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • Significant experience relevant to specialty.

Skills:

  • Ability to interrogate patient's medical records and extract relevant information for audit purposes.

Desirable:

  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and seek help when necessary.

Attitude, Aptitude:

  • Able to use own initiative and work without close supervision within agreed protocols.
  • Effective role model, demonstrating NNUH's PRIDE values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence.
