We have a great opportunity to join our Education team as a Reading Specialist Tutor for Novus, our prison education provider at HMP&YOI Deerbolt offered on a permanent, full-time basis working 37 hrs per week.

At Novus, we are now seeking a talented education professional to join our education team, working within HMP&YOI Deerbolt (Barnard Castle).
In this role, you will work and be supported by our amazing team of dedicated professionals to mentor our prisoners to develop their English reading and writing skills, which will in turn help them to secure future employment opportunities post-release. Working in a prison is different to a mainstream education facility. Time will be given to planning and your local education manager is always on hand to provide support as and when needed. Delivery happens between Monday and Friday and weekends are strictly for rest and relaxation.
Support the upskilling of education provider and HMPPS staff to raise aware of the needs of non and pre-entry readers and helping them to develop and implement strategies to support non and pre-entry readers to progress.
Work with onsite libraries and other relevant partners to develop a whole prison approach to promote reading using a range of strategies including, but not limited to, book clubs, writers in residence, enrichment opportunities etc.
Collect and collate data to be made available to the Governor, Head of Reducing Reoffending (HoRR), Head of Education, Work and Skills and the Learning and Skills Manager including but not limited to the number of non-readers in the establishment population, the number engaging with support, the progress made by these individuals and the number moving into and successfully completing relevant qualifications What we need from you
A teaching qualification or subject specialist qualification at Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards) with a commitment to obtain the relevant outstanding Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards) qualification within a specified time scale (required)
Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
Qualification in delivery specialism (English/Reading)Ideally you will want to be a part of a team which has at its core a focus on improving lives and enabling and equipping learners to develop, grow and be equipped for a life of work and success.
