Senior Mechanical Engineer (Mechanical CRE) – West Midlands£75k - £85k + PackageJob Summary: We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer (CRE) to join a well-established principal contractor on a upgrade project in a Network Rail station. You will manage the engineering process from design to installation, testing, and commissioning, ensuring that all aspects meet HSE, quality, programme, and compliance standards. This role involves working closely with the construction team and liaising with key stakeholders, including Network Rail, to ensure the successful delivery of either Mechanical or Public Health systems.Key Responsibilities: Act as the Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) in accordance with Network Rail standardsLead a small engineering team to deliver the design, installation, and commissioning of Mechanical or Public Health systemsReview designs in compliance with HS2, NR, BS, EN, and ISO standards, ensuring buildability and constructabilityManage third-party design consultants and liaise with Network Rail and other stakeholdersProvide technical solutions, manage design documentation, and oversee BIM/CAD teamAttend interdisciplinary design reviews (IDR/IDC) and oversee clash detectionManage subcontractor works and collaborate with the commercial and planning teamsEnsure compliance with quality management systems and health and safety standardsPerson Specification:Technical Knowledge and Skills: Essential: Strong knowledge of Mechanical or Public Health systems (e.g., HVAC, fire-rated ductwork, potable water, drainage systems)Familiar with design and compliance processesProficient in MS Office and scheduling tools (MS Project or P6)Knowledge of BIM standards and sustainability practicesDesired:Experience with design software (HEVACOMP, IES, Revit, AutoCAD)Understanding of DSEAR/ATEX requirementsQualifications:Essential:Degree in Mechanical or Building Services EngineeringRegistered as Incorporated Engineer with IMechE, IET, or CIBSESMSTS, SSSTS, or IOSH Managing SafetyCSCS Card (AQP or PQP)Full UK driving licenceDesired: Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Building Services EngineeringChartered Engineer statusNEBOSH Construction Certificate or formal HSE trainingProject management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, etc.)Competencies / Behaviours:Essential: Strong leadership and people management skillsAbility to work under pressure and make decisive decisionsCollaborative and forward-thinking, with excellent communication skillsFlexible and willing to work out of hours when neededExperience:Essential:At least seven years’ experience in a similar Mechanical or Public Health Engineering rolePrevious experience in infrastructure or construction environmentsFamiliarity with offsite construction, modularisation, and pre-fabrication techniquesDesired:Experience on Network Rail or HS2 projectsExperience working on large railway station projectsCommissioning experience
