Job Description

The Data Gals is thrilled to partner with a leading global mining company to find their next Data Team Lead . This pivotal role combines leadership, technical expertise, and stakeholder engagement to optimise the company’s data capabilities and drive operational excellence across its global operations.


About the Role

As the Data Lead, you’ll focus on managing and enhancing data operations related to machine health, process performance, and operational data. You will lead a lean, agile team in a unique environment, balancing hands-on coding (50%) with leadership responsibilities (50%). Reporting directly to senior stakeholders, including the C-suite, you’ll play a key role in building scalable data solutions, driving governance, and fostering innovation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team working across data analytics, data engineering, and data governance. Validate solutions and ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Write and review code using tools like Python, Power BI, and Azure, while optimising workflows for efficiency.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders and stakeholders to understand business requirements, prioritise projects, and communicate progress effectively.
  • Foster a structured yet dynamic approach to operations, minimising reactive tasks and promoting proactive innovation.
  • Implement data governance frameworks and support the development of advanced data science solutions.


What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience in mining, manufacturing, oil & gas, natural resources, or farming is essential.
  • Proficiency in Azure, Python, and Power BI. Strong understanding of data analytics & engineering
  • Proven ability to lead teams in an agile environment with a go-getter mentality.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable working in a lean team and navigating a unique, fast-paced environment.


Requirements

  • London (3 days a week in-office)
  • Occasional global travel.
