BAM UK and Ireland is recruiting an Environmental Sustainability Carbon Reduction Lead. The Environmental Sustainability Carbon Reduction Lead reports to the Centre of Expertise Lead for Whole Life Carbon. The role can be based out of any of our UK & Ireland office locations with hybrid flexible working arrangements encouraged and actively supported.
Your mission
The Carbon Reduction Lead supports the agenda in their specific area of expertise across BAM UK & Ireland and wider Royal BAM Group, supporting the implementation of policy and sustainable ways of working, and leading green initiatives in partnership with both the Environmental Sustainability team and wider business.
Your Mission
• Champions a culture of continual improvement with respect to BAM’s decarbonisation journey. Collaborates and shares knowledge and insights with WLC Lead and the wider-business as appropriate. Works closely with, and reports into the Whole Life Carbon (WLC) Lead and leads on decarbonisation initiatives across the Division.
• Works in an agile way, flexing to business need, with ability to work on several green initiatives concurrently. Supports collaboration with emphasis on the Enabling Services and BAM divisional capabilities (design, site solutions etc) that have greatest opportunity to influence the decarbonisation roadmap. Seeks out opportunities to enhance business engagement and improve Sustainability performance against targets.
• Supports the horizon scanning of government policy, industry developments and future legislation with respect to specific areas of decarbonisation (ie upstream, downstream) to ensure BAM are prepared for, and able to effectively anticipate change. Generates intel and insights on client and market developments, ensuring BAM continues to develop its competitive position.
• Drives the implementation of green initiatives that support BAM’s decarbonisation agenda working closely with nominated leads from Enabling Services and Segments. Champions best practice and seeks out opportunities to promote and drive innovation and sustainable ways of working across the Division & BAM’s project and service lifecycle.
• Works particularly closely with Procurement to leverage opportunities with supply chain partners to enhance sustainability arrangements and policies. Promotes sustainable procurement decision making and practices that have a positive impact on BAM’s sustainability agenda.
• Supports work winning where required, engaging with client representatives and supporting carbon specific responses, including developing bid collateral based on latest developments, initiatives and opportunities that supports the wider team and business to deliver a consistent message.
• Supports development of policy, processes and ways of working in line with BAM UK&I’s approach towards the successful delivery of decarbonisation roadmap and targets.
• Contributes to the development of processes and ways of working that allow for improved measurement, analysis and reporting of data. Works in conjunction with the WLC Lead, Segment Business Partners and Environmental Services Business Partners to implement and embed.
• Represents BAM at relevant industry and supply chain events and working groups, supporting and enhances BAM’s reputation.
• Assists with quarterly internal and regulatory sustainability reporting and disclosures focused on decarbonisation.
• Proactively engages with the business to help build awareness, knowledge and understanding of the decarbonisation strategy, agenda and new ways of working. Supports upskilling with input into webinars, workshops and training events as required alongside WLC Lead, including supporting ongoing development of training materials.
Who are we looking for?
• A strong technical knowledge and experience in decarbonisation, with expert knowledge in one or more specific areas of decarbonisation (ie upstream, downstream, embodied, operational).
• A high level of understanding of the current and future landscape relating to specialist areas of sustainability, including government strategy and policy, client priorities and approaches.
• Significant experience gained through similar roles across the private and/or public sector.
• Ability to organise workload and progress a number of competing priorities at the same time.
• Demonstrable experience of working with, and influencing, senior stakeholders internally and externally.
• Fluent with key environmental sustainability concepts and standards outside of decarbonisation.
• Extensive knowledge of associated reporting tools and benchmarking.
• Excellent communication skills; an articulate presenter to internal and external audiences.
• Influencing and networking, speaking and profile raising with other stakeholders in the sector including client groups.
• Ability to develop strong, positive relationships and to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
• Experience of developing collaborative partnerships and supply chain relationships.
• Experience of working within a successful bidding / work-winning environment.
• Demonstrable commercial awareness.
• A high degree of energy and self-motivation with ability to identify, develop & implement solutions.
• Enthusiasm and ability to inspire and motivate people across a company to get involved, supporting personal development and business objectives.
• Good organisation skills and time management and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Good working knowledge of the key challenges in decarbonising the construction industry.
• A relevant degree qualification and be a higher-level member of IEMA or similar professional body.
• A passion for and commitment to sustainability issues, delivering excellence and driving continuous improvement
