Job Purpose:

You will assist the craftsperson in maintaining, promoting, altering, and repairing the LV/HV distribution network. Your responsibilities will include switching, fitting, and jointing work on the network, and helping restore LV supplies during faults and emergencies. You will observe the work in progress to ensure correct procedures are followed, regarding PPE and safe working practices.

Each day, the craftsperson receives job assignments and assesses the work, materials, and stock needed. As a Craft Attendant, you will adopt a responsible and safe approach to unplanned hazardous situations, working with the public, emergency services, and local authorities when representing UK Power Networks in emergencies.

You will typically work 37 hours per week and are encouraged to study for a City & Guilds 2339 (formerly 2322) qualification, with future opportunities to train as a craftsperson Fitter/Jointer.

Principal Accountabilities:

- Observe all work on live LV apparatus with exposed conductors.

- Ensure the safe use of equipment, following health and safety procedures and network standards, and ensuring colleagues on-site wear the relevant PPE.

- Prevent members of the public from distracting staff working on live equipment.

- Set up equipment for the Fitter/Jointer, including preparing work areas and tools.

- Assist the Fitter/Jointer in work on live 240/415v apparatus and conductors, according to safety procedures.

- Use IT equipment such as SAP Work Manager and Fiori.

- Help maintain and inspect the LV and HV network.

- Support the Fitter/Jointer by assessing job feasibility, safety, tools, and equipment, and working with the Field Engineer.

- Participate in system emergency storm roles, adhering to network standards and safety requirements.

Measures of Success:

- Achieving zero harm to yourself, colleagues, and the public.

- Meeting fault response targets: 30 minutes on-site for LV faults, 170 minutes for LV fault restoration, and 60 minutes power on for HV faults.

- Improving customer satisfaction ratings for UKPN within Central London.

- Ensuring tools and equipment are within test dates and calibrated.

- Receiving positive feedback from colleagues, customers, and other organizations, indicating successful policy and procedure implementation.

- Obtaining a City & Guilds 2339 (formerly 2322) qualification and training to become a craftsperson.

Nature and Scope:

You, along with the Craftsperson, report to the Field Staff Supervisor within the Network Operations department. This unit rapidly restores customer supplies through first response technicians, fitters, and linesmen.

Work assignments are allocated to the Craftsperson by dispatch, field engineers, or scheduling teams, ranging from single complex tasks to multiple daily jobs. The Craftsperson assesses the work pack and determines if the tasks can be safely completed with your assistance. Any queries about the work can be discussed with the Control Room or Field Engineer.

You will have an Individual Performance Review with the Field Staff Supervisor to set goals, and monthly team talks. Flexibility and teamwork are crucial, as you may work with different craftspersons when your regular partner is unavailable.

Qualifications:

- Educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent.

- Understand of the Electricity at Work Act, including electrical diagrams and maps.

- New Roads & Streetworks Act (NRSWA) - Units 1, 2, and 3 completion.

- Initial training at a training centre for policy and health & safety, followed by on-the-job learning.

- First Aid training.

- Awareness of network standards and health & safety policies, with the knowledge to escalate issues to the craftsperson.

- Full UK driving license required.
