Job Title: Estimator

About the Role:
Our client, a well-established construction company, is looking for an experienced Estimator to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to take charge of estimating and pricing for a variety of projects, from new builds to fit-out work.

The role involves preparing accurate and competitive tenders, managing the estimating process, and supporting the team. You’ll work closely with senior management, providing key insights into project costs and risk factors, while helping guide and develop less experienced estimators.

Key Responsibilities:

* Prepare and submit tenders on time, ensuring accuracy and thorough cost analysis.

* Secure profitable projects for both short and long-term business growth.

* Allocate team resources for each tender and manage the submission process.

* Review all tenders to ensure they meet requirements before submission.

* Identify risks and opportunities in tenders, proposing effective solutions.

* Provide regular updates on tender progress to the Director(s).

* Guide and mentor junior estimators, leading team meetings and reporting.

* Regularly update estimating documentation, rates, and software.

* Carry out site visits as required to understand project needs.

Skills and Experience:

* Strong experience building estimates from first principles and understanding project scope.

* Proficient in quantity take-offs and reading technical drawings.

* Good knowledge of construction methods and their impact on estimating and pricing.

* Ability to assess project programmes and suggest cost-effective solutions.

* Experience with general contracting, including new builds, fit-outs, and various construction methods.

* Strong understanding of construction contracts (JCT, NEC, D&B).

* Experience with estimating and take-off software.

Qualifications/IT Skills:

* Ideally, a degree or HNC in Quantity Surveying or similar.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

* Experience with MS Project and estimating software is an advantage.
