Electronic Systems Engineer

12 months Fixed term contract | £60k - £80k D.O.E | Motorsport

About the Role
Reporting to the CTO, you will work as part of the team on numerous engineering programs. Our programs require a diverse range of engineering skills; therefore, we are interested in applicants who can demonstrate a fundamental understanding and experience in the following areas:

* Vehicle electronic system design & operation/ In-depth knowledge of conventional, hybrid & e-vehicle control systems/ Delivery & optimization of land vehicle control systems/ Supplier, customer & driver liaison

All electronic control systems development is to be managed in collaboration with other vehicle areas, including powertrain and drivetrain (incorporating hydraulic & pneumatic systems). A minimum of 10 years of experience in full vehicle electronics systems is required, due to the level of autonomy we expect from the engineering team.

You will communicate with drivers, clients, and suppliers at all levels. As a result, effective oral and written communication skills are essential.

This role would appeal to someone who works best when they need to think creatively about an engineering solution, is adaptable to client requirements, and can work independently while maintaining team communication.

High-Level Technical Attributes

The position specifically requires:

* A high-level understanding of Electrical and Electronic systems used within the Motorsport or Automotive industries

* Experience & knowledge of automotive electronic systems, CAN, data acquisition & sensing technology

* Management of electronics & control systems hardware & software

* Development and reliable delivery/operation of electronic control systems

* Liaison with all key technical partners & suppliers

* Generation of technical documentation & procedures

* Coordination with other engineering groups, build technicians & test drivers

* Technical support to other groups, including Engineering & Vehicle Build Departments

* Communication with multiple engineering departments through reports & presentations

* Preparation of control & data acquisition systems for rig, track & HIL events

* Support of control & data acquisition systems at rig, track & HIL events

* Support for full vehicle system testing & calibration worldwide

* Support and development of rig & track software tools & systems

* Development of real-time control systems

* Development of HIL systems

* Generation of technical documentation for rig & track events, test programs & operational procedures

Managing Customer Relationships

Effective communication with management and customers is crucial for: Preparation of specifications, Electronic systems reviews, Vehicle project reviews, Vehicle system validation, sign-off & delivery

Project Coordination / Management

Responsibilities include: Managing your own work within time & budget constraints, Managing others as required, Planning and estimating work & budgets

Person Specification: Core Competencies & Experience

Applicants will preferably have a degree in electrical or electronics systems engineering or a related discipline. However, we will consider applicants with an HND in a related engineering discipline or equivalent experience.

All applicants are required to have:

* Proven use of industry-standard data acquisition systems

* Familiarity with Matlab Simulink for control system development

* Evidence of client-facing experience

* Exceptional written & verbal communication skills

* Ability to prepare specifications & deliver these within time & budget constraints

* Confident use of MS-Office applications

* Proven skills in detailed analysis from first principles

* Knowledge of engineering procedures & sign-off processes

* Creation and dissemination of good working practices and processes

* Practical hands-on assembly experience – design for assembly
