About the role:
SEN Teaching Assistant with SEMH Specialism Wanted in Barnet As an SEN TA with a specialism in SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, you will play a vital role in nurturing and supporting students with SEMH needs across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. You’ll work 1:1 with students who require additional guidance, helping them build confidence, develop coping strategies, and make progress both academically and personally. With your patience and expertise, you’ll be instrumental in creating a safe and inclusive space that allows students to thrive.
This full-time, long-term role offers a unique chance to work closely with an experienced SEN team and dedicated class teachers. You will use your skills to support behaviour management, adapt lessons, and encourage positive social interactions. With the support of a skilled SENCO, you’ll receive training and opportunities for development, making this role not only fulfilling but also a great chance to grow in your SEN career.
Application Requirements:
• Experience in supporting students with SEMH needs and knowledge of effective SEMH strategies.
• Ability to work 1:1 with students who may display challenging behaviours.
• Strong communication skills to engage and collaborate with teachers, SEN staff, and parents.
• Resilience and adaptability in supporting students with complex needs.
• Passion for SEN and dedication to making a lasting impact on students’ lives.
Key Responsibilities:
• 1:1 Support and Behaviour Management: Provide dedicated, 1:1 support for students with SEMH needs, implementing effective behaviour management strategies to foster a calm and productive learning environment.
• Promote Social and Emotional Development: Help students develop essential social, emotional, and coping skills by guiding them through structured activities and interventions tailored to their individual needs.
• Collaborate with Teaching and SEN Staff: Work closely with class teachers, SENCO, and other support staff to adapt lessons and create inclusive learning experiences that meet each student’s unique requirements.
• Encourage Positive Interactions and Social Skills: Facilitate positive peer interactions and model appropriate social behaviours to help students build relationships and feel integrated into the school community.
• Monitor and Report Student Progress: Regularly observe and document students’ academic and social progress, reporting to the SENCO and contributing to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure targeted, effective support.
