Job Title: School Caretaker
Location: Rugby
Hours of Work:
* Monday to Thursday: 9:30 am – 5:30 pm
* Friday: 9:30 am – 5:00 pm
(37 hours per week, with a 30-minute lunch break daily) - Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Job Purpose:
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Caretaker to provide essential support to a busy school environment. The successful candidate will ensure the safety, security, and maintenance of the school site, including buildings and outdoor areas. You will be responsible for minor maintenance, supervising contractors, and ensuring all routines and procedures are carried out effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance:
* Maintain the site to ensure it is safe, secure, and fit for purpose.
* Perform minor maintenance tasks and report any significant repairs.
* Inspect and clear drains, gullies, and external areas.
* Operate and monitor the heating system and ensure a consistent supply of hot water.
* Carry out frost and snow precautions and respond to emergencies (e.g., fire, flood).
* Keep outdoor areas clean and litter-free.
Security:
* Open and close the premises securely.
* Conduct routine and non-routine security checks.
* Perform weekly fire alarm tests and report faults.
* Handle instances of trespass or unauthorized parking.
General Duties:
* Set up rooms and equipment as required.
* Assist with marking hard play areas and moving equipment.
* Support and cover for the Senior Caretaker as needed.
* Promote and adhere to all Health & Safety procedures.
* Respond promptly to emergencies and report incidents to supervisors.
Other Responsibilities:
* Maintain awareness of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
* Promote equal opportunities and inclusivity.
* Attend meetings and training as required.
* Ensure confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
Person Specification:
Essential:
* Ability to carry out procedures, follow instructions, and maintain routines.
* Basic maintenance skills, including plumbing, electrical, and general repair.
* Literacy and numeracy skills to complete forms, place orders, and maintain stock.
* Ability to work independently and solve problems effectively.
* Flexibility to occasionally adjust working hours.
Desirable:
* Previous experience in caretaking or maintenance roles.
* Awareness of Health & Safety and COSHH guidelines.
* Basic IT skills (e.g., email systems).
* Knowledge of the structure and ethos of school environments.
Safeguarding:
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check and complete safeguarding and child protection training.
