About the role

Working 4 on 4 off shift pattern days and nights, as the Shift Leader, you will be planning all vessels and terminal activities, ensuring correct manning levels and working times within achievable timeframes, while efficiently sharing resources across departments. Additionally, this role involves working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop solutions that create a better working environment.

You will be responsible for:

Working closely with operational management to plan, allocate, control, and deploy labour and equipment in conjunction with defined plans, prioritise work; identify any existing or potential problems and agree how they should be resolved.

Proactively liaise with the Ships’ Officers and all other departments to plan for each vessel’s operation, resolve operational problems as they occur so that disruptions and delays are avoided.

Managing customer relationships to ensure that customers are satisfied, and any potential issues are worked on with collaboration with the internal and external stakeholders.

Monitoring activities to ensure that all cargo within the Terminal is being handled in accordance with operating procedures.

Monitoring and engaging with the team to ensure that all health and safety procedures and policies are discussed, briefed, and implemented with clear expectations.

Liaise with claims to work on damage prevention, to reduce financial costs, change in methods of work to reduce the amount of claims within the respective Terminal and vessels, complete assessments for the Claims Department so that claims can be settled as quickly as possible.
Leadership:

Engage and communicate to ensure that all relevant policies, operating procedures, and service standards are being maintained and further developed with the correct personnel involved.

Recruit and lead a team, with an open and honest approach, understanding the requirement whilst listening to the team, and giving support and development as and when required.

Promote a culture where the teams are listened and empowered to make decisions, with the support from all colleagues.

To develop Health & Safety briefings and present to the teams any trends that highlight accidents, incident, and near misses, to raise awareness and collectively come up with solutions on how to reduce these.

Conduct and complete HR investigations in a fair and equitable manner, ensuring that all aspects have been considered to give and informed/ impartial point of view.

Coach individuals/teams to ensure that they have a clear understanding of the tasks set out, whilst ensuring support and guidance is given throughout to achieve the goal.

They should be open and honest, building trust with colleagues, and take responsibility for clear goals while relying on the team to achieve objectives. A positive mindset focused on solutions and providing support to those around them is essential. Flexibility and adaptability to environmental changes, while maintaining a positive outlook, are crucial. Additionally, the candidate must be capable of holding challenging conversations with teams and individuals when necessary.
