Head of Commercial - Construction and Civil Engineering

Overseeing: Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Midlands Regions

Reports to: Managing Director

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Commercial proffesional to join a growing civil engineering and construction main contractor business. This senior position will lead and develop our commercial function across the Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Midlands regions, ensuring robust commercial governance and maximizing project profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide strategic commercial leadership across all projects within the regions

* Lead, manage and mentor the Midlands commercial team

* Oversee commercial aspects of projects from tender to final account

* Ensure robust contract administration across NEC and JCT frameworks

* Manage client relationships and key stakeholder engagement

* Drive commercial excellence and best practice across the business

* Monitor and report on project financial performance

* Lead contract negotiations and dispute resolution when required

* Support the business development team in tender submissions

* Implement and maintain commercial processes and procedures

Essential Experience & Qualifications:

* Extensive commercial management experience within civil engineering

* Proven expertise in NEC and JCT contract administration

* Track record of successfully leading commercial teams

* Experience across various sectors (infrastructure, utilities, etc.)

* Strong understanding of risk management and commercial strategy

* Relevant degree or professional qualification

* Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills

Desirable Experience:

* Chartered status with RICS or equivalent professional body desirable but not essential.

* Experience with public sector frameworks

* Knowledge of alternative contract forms (FIDIC, ICC, etc.)
