Now Education are delighted to be working in partnership with Manchester College who require a Learning Mentor to join their supportive team of staff.

The role is based within the Foundation Learning Department at Manchester College Wythenshawe, in partnership with Manchester Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU).

The role is to start asap and continue until Christmas with a strong possibility of being extended until the end of the academic year in July 2025.

There is the potential of a permanent role for the right member of staff.

The hours of work are: Monday - Friday 8.30am-4.00pm.

The successful Learning Mentor will play a pivotal role in supporting the educational and personal development of young people who are excluded or at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.

This role demands a strong commitment to assisting young people facing significant barriers to learning, helping them reach their full potential.

The successful candidate will have the ability to identify, assess, and meet the support needs of students to ensure that equal access to high quality education is achieved.

They will work collaboratively with staff, including teachers, support workers, schools, and external agencies, to provide comprehensive support to students.

The successful candidate will have enough knowledge about the UK education system to be able to confidently liaise with colleagues, parents, and other professionals regarding the academic and personal development of students.

They will have the confidence to maintain clear and effective communication with parents/carers, keeping them informed of student progress and any concerns and have the ability to create realistic and SMART targets relating to attendance and punctuality.

Take responsibility for maintaining accurate records of student progress, behaviour, and attendance, documenting observations, interventions, and outcomes.

Have the ability to create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

Be able to supervise learners throughout the day, e.g. arrivals, departures, breaks, lunchtimes, and classroom support.

Understand how to respond to crises or emergencies involving students, providing immediate support and following established protocols for safeguarding and intervention.

Be proactive in the management of challenging behaviours effectively, employing de-escalation techniques and restorative practices.

Have the ability to build positive relationships with students, promoting their social, emotional, and academic development.

Demonstrate positive behaviours, attitudes, and values to serve as a role model and inspire disengaged students to make positive changes in their lives.

Support students in developing social and emotional skills, resilience, and self-confidence through mentoring, coaching, and positive reinforcement.

You will take responsibility for planning and delivering a tutorial programme in accordance with the curriculum intent and individual needs of students.

Support teachers with lesson preparation, classroom management, and the delivery of lessons.

Provide tailored one-on-one and group support to students with diverse needs.

Implement individualised support plans in collaboration with teaching staff and external agencies.

Aid students in understanding and completing assignments, projects, and coursework.

Coordinate and lead extracurricular activities, workshops, and events aimed at enhancing student engagement and well-being.

Support students in transitioning into and out of the education project, including preparation for reintegration into mainstream education or transitioning to further education, employment, or training.

Participate in extracurricular activities, events and other duties as required.
