This leading, and long-established import/export business specialising in supplying houseware/kitchenware with a strong focus on ceramics and supply major retailers, wholesale businesses, and e-commerce platforms. We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Buyer to join their growing team. This key role involves managing the procurement process from supplier negotiation through to delivery, with a particular focus on sourcing ceramic products from Far East suppliers, negotiating contracts, and handling some of the design work to ensure our product range meets customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

* Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers in the Far East and other key regions, ensuring the smooth and efficient procurement of ceramic houseware products.

* Negotiation & Contract Management: Negotiate prices, terms, and contracts with suppliers to secure the best value for the business, ensuring quality and timely delivery.

* Product Sourcing: Source and identify new ceramic products that meet the latest market trends and customer demands, ensuring they align with our quality standards and business objectives.

* Design Work: Handle some of the design work for new ceramic products, ensuring they meet both functional and aesthetic requirements for the target market.

* Cost Management: Monitor product costs and work with the finance team to ensure that purchasing decisions align with budgetary constraints and profit margins.

* Inventory & Supply Chain Management: Manage stock levels to ensure the efficient flow of products, coordinating with logistics to prevent stockouts and excess inventory.

* Market Research & Trend Analysis: Stay updated on industry trends, competitor activity, and consumer preferences to keep our product offering competitive and innovative.

* E-commerce & Retail Strategy: Collaborate with the e-commerce and retail teams to ensure product listings and stock align with consumer demand and seasonal trends.

Key Skills and Experience:

* Proven experience as a Buyer, preferably within the houseware sector with a strong focus on ceramics, but would consider candidates who have sold other retail products (non-food)

* Extensive experience working with suppliers from the Far East, with a deep understanding of the import/export process, customs, and logistics – essential

* Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing favourable terms and contracts.

* Experience handling design work or collaborating on product design to ensure ceramic products are both functional and aesthetically appealing.

* Solid understanding of cost control, inventory management, and supply chain logistics.

* This role would not suit someone who works directly in retail, must be from a product/supply chain background

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with international suppliers, internal teams, and key stakeholders.

* Strong commercial acumen with a focus on achieving business objectives and profitability.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with procurement software or MS Navision
