Contract Type: Full-Time / Part-Time (Flexible)
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Start Date: ASAP

Job Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Functional Skills Tutor with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to work with primary-aged students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Berkshire. The successful candidate will deliver tailored Functional Skills lessons in English and Mathematics, supporting students with a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning difficulties. Your role will be to help students develop essential literacy, numeracy, and life skills, fostering confidence and independence.

This role provides the opportunity to work in a supportive, inclusive environment where you can make a significant impact on the academic and personal growth of children who face additional challenges in their learning journey. You will collaborate with a team of professionals to develop and deliver lessons that are adapted to meet the individual needs of each student.

Key Responsibilities:

*

Lesson Planning & Delivery:
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Functional Skills lessons in English and Mathematics tailored to the needs of primary-aged students with SEN. Use differentiated strategies, resources, and assessments to ensure all students can access and succeed in their learning.

*

Assessment & Monitoring Progress:
Regularly assess students' progress using formative and summative assessments. Track individual progress and adjust lesson plans accordingly to ensure continuous improvement.

*

Differentiation:
Use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate students with different learning styles and abilities. Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students with SEN, ensuring accessibility and engagement in the learning process.

*

Individual Education Plans (IEPs):
Collaborate with the SENCO and other staff to develop and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for each student. Set clear, achievable goals and monitor student progress in line with their IEPs.

*

Classroom Management:
Maintain a positive, safe, and supportive classroom environment. Use effective behaviour management strategies to foster student engagement and ensure a respectful, inclusive classroom atmosphere.

*

Collaboration with Parents and Caregivers:
Build positive relationships with parents and caregivers. Provide regular updates on student progress, share strategies for supporting learning at home, and address any concerns.

*

Safeguarding & Well-being:
Follow safeguarding policies to ensure the safety and well-being of all students in your care. Support students’ emotional and social development, ensuring they feel supported and included in the school community.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

*

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS):
A recognised teaching qualification with QTS is essential for this role. Applicants must have experience in primary education and be able to teach Functional Skills in English and Mathematics to students with SEN.

*

Experience with SEN:
Experience working with children with a range of Special Educational Needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, communication difficulties) is highly desirable. A deep understanding of how to adapt teaching methods for SEN students is crucial.

*

Functional Skills Expertise:
A strong understanding of the Functional Skills curriculum, particularly in English and Mathematics, and experience in teaching these subjects to students with diverse needs.

*

Patience, Empathy & Communication:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting, positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching are key.

*

Ability to Differentiate Instruction:
Proven ability to differentiate lessons and activities to suit a wide range of abilities, ensuring all students can engage meaningfully with the content.

*

DBS Check:
An up-to-date Enhanced DBS check is required (or willingness to undergo one if appointed).

*

First Aid (Desirable):
A basic understanding of first aid and an ability to support students with health-related needs would be beneficial.

Why Join Us?

*

Inclusive and Supportive Environment:
Work in an inclusive, collaborative school environment that is committed to supporting students with additional needs. We value diversity and strive to create a learning space where all students can thrive.

*

Professional Development:
Opportunities for continuous professional development, including SEN training and strategies for delivering Functional Skills education to students with additional learning needs.

*

Flexible Working Options:
We offer flexible working arrangements, including both full-time and part-time roles, to help support work-life balance.

*

Competitive Salary & Benefits:
A competitive salary based on experience, along with a benefits package designed to support your professional and personal well-being.

If you are an experienced Functional Skills Tutor with QTS and a passion for supporting primary-aged students with Special Educational Needs, we would love to hear from you. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students in Berkshire
