Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract) - £40 per hour

Rate: £38-40 per hour (Inside IR35)
Hours: 37.5 per week 
Flexibility: Hy-brid position (1 or 2 days per week in the office)

We’re on the hunt for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and play a key role in delivering cutting-edge laser communications technology. This is your chance to work on high-precision, industry-defining projects in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Designing and developing mechanical systems that are integral to our advanced laser communication systems.
Preparing detailed engineering drawings with precision and clarity.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve design and integration challenges.
Liaising with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
Supporting prototype assembly and testing, including hands-on troubleshooting and iterative design improvements.What We’re Looking For:

Experience: 5+ years in mechanical design engineering, ideally in high-precision or aerospace sectors.
Software Skills: Minimum of 2 years’ SolidWorks experience (PDM experience is a bonus).
Knowledge: Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, and assembly processes for precision assemblies.
Drawing Expertise: Skilled in producing detailed engineering drawings, including GD&T.
Supplier Management: Confident managing suppliers to bring designs to production successfully.
Team Player: A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.Bonus Skills:

Familiarity with FEA tools like ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation.
Experience with opto-mechanical or high-precision systems.
