Location: Nottinghamshire, UK
Salary: £18,441.28 per annum
Working Pattern: Full-Time
Contract Type: Permanent

Application Deadline: Sunday 27th October 2024
Interview Date: Week Commencing 28th October 2024

About Us

Worksop College and Ranby House; one community set across two schools. We are proud to be a broad ability school, educating children from ages 2-18. With a strong focus on progress, we recognise that every child has their own set of skills and abilities, whether academic, sporting, musical, or otherwise. We believe education is about more than just academic success, but about human flourishing. We aim for our students to become the best versions of themselves. Whether destined for university, excelling in sports, or perfecting their craft in the arts, our remarkable school, with exceptional facilities and staff, provides the perfect setting for them to thrive.

The Role

We are seeking an outstanding candidate to provide the highest quality care and learning environment for our children. The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for supporting the children at our school and is expected to inspire, excite, and nurture every child in their care.

Additional 1:1 Role

This particular post will also involve providing 1:1 support to a student who is deaf. The role is ideal for someone passionate about helping children overcome communication barriers to succeed academically and socially.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Providing personalised 1:1 support to a pupil who is deaf, assisting them in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
• Implementing tailored communication strategies, including the use of sign language or other relevant tools, to facilitate effective learning and interaction.
• Collaborating closely with teaching staff and external professionals to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that meet the student’s specific needs.
• Monitoring the student’s progress, adapting support strategies as necessary, and ensuring their well-being and inclusion within the school community.
• Supporting the development of the student’s social, emotional, and academic skills, fostering their confidence and independence.

The candidate will accompany the child to all lessons and events, ensuring access to lesson content and offering advice to staff on amending lessons to be fully inclusive for a deaf child. The role also requires a high level of emotional and pastoral support, so a person with empathy and the ability to understand and support the child’s experience and difficulties is essential.

Being able to use British Sign Language (BSL) is desirable. However, we will welcome and consider applications from candidates with a basic background or strong interest in working with deaf children and young people.

Benefits

The school has high expectations of its staff and offers an attractive benefits package, including:

• Monthly salary including holiday pay.
• Fee concessions for the children of full-time teaching staff who meet the school’s entry requirements.
• Lunch provided when on duty; the school is known for its high-quality catering. Tea and coffee are available throughout the working day.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Proficiency in sign language (BSL) – Preferred
• Experience of working with children who are deaf or have hearing impairments – Preferred
• Familiarity with technical equipment used by the deaf – Preferred
• At least two years of experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs – Desirable
• Understanding of accountability and parental expectations in the independent sector – Desirable
• Competent IT skills to support activities and IT-based admin tasks – Desirable
• Driving licence (including D1 category) – Desirable
• Child Protection and Safeguarding Training (provided by the school) – Desirable
• First Aid Training (provided by the school) – Desirable
• Full and relevant qualification in Childcare, Teaching Assistant, and/or SEN – Essential
• Knowledge and experience of supporting children with learning needs in and out of the classroom – Essential
• Evidence of being able to motivate, inspire, and lead young children – Essential
• Experience with strategies to engage and challenge pupils for progress – Essential
• Patience, empathy, and a commitment to helping pupils achieve their full potential – Essential
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with pupils and collaborate effectively with staff and parents – Essential
