Watson Road Supported Living is a four bed mental health supported living accommodation, offering a 24 hour service. We also have three service users who we support in their own homes and in the community.
We’re looking for a full-time Support Worker who can work the full rotation of shifts across seven days, (9am-5pm, 2pm-10pm + sleep in onto a 7am-2pm).
You’ll be supporting service users both in their accommodation and in the community to overcome issues in their daily lives impacting negatively on their mental health and wellbeing.
You’ll support service users to identify barriers / challenges to living as independently as possible by utilising a strengths-based approach, develop a support plan to enable service users to achieve their goals
The Role
As a support worker, you’ll:
* Provide flexible, long-term support to enable service users to increase independence and overcome social, practical, financial and emotional difficulties
* Support service users to develop coping strategies to manage periods of problematic mental health
* Help access their potential to manage aspects of daily living and address underlying social stressors
* Assist the service user to overcome challenges in their lives including housing, finances, welfare benefits, medication, engaging in the wider community and all aspects of daily living.
* Promote social inclusion and participation in the life of the city by developing and maintaining links with agencies beyond health and social care and by introducing activities, community resources and sometimes creative sources of support.
* Reduce the need for more hospital admissions.
* Foster positive partnerships within the multi-agency arena, working collaboratively across operational areas and the local community to raise awareness of mental health issues and available support options.
* Liaise with, signpost, or refer to relevant statutory and voluntary agencies, advocating for the best possible support for each service user.
* Undertake relevant training, ensuring continuous professional development and staying informed about the latest industry knowledge. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable, but we welcome candidates with relevant experience from other sectors or transferrable skills.
ABOUT YOU
We’re looking for someone who has the values, knowledge and skills of working within a support role supporting clients with mental health needs and can demonstrate how they use their skills and common sense to support vulnerable individuals. They’ll have a commitment to maintaining the dignity and rights of the individuals and families we work with, with top notch communication skills.
Previous experience in a similar role is desirable, but we welcome candidates with relevant experience from other sectors or transferrable skills.
