Wanted Freelance Structural Engineer for Demolition Project

Position: Structural Engineer (Demolition Specialist)

Location: Birmingham City Centre

Duration: 3 weeks+ Full-time, On-Site

Salary: £300 - £400 per day

Industry: Construction & Demolition

Start date: Immediately available

Role Overview:

As a Structural Engineer on a demolition project, you will be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and safety of buildings and infrastructure before, during, and after demolition activities. You will work closely with demolition contractors, architects, site managers, and health & safety officers to develop and implement detailed demolition plans, execute structural analyses, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

* Conduct structural assessments of buildings and structures slated for demolition to identify critical risk areas.

* Analyse blueprints, schematics, and design specifications to determine the structural stability and possible impact of demolition activities.

* Work with the demolition team to create detailed, safe demolition plans that mitigate risks to workers and surrounding infrastructure.

* Provide engineering expertise for on-site problem-solving, including making adjustments to demolition methods in real time as needed.

* Monitor structural conditions during the demolition process, ensuring that ongoing work is carried out safely and efficiently.

* Carry out load-bearing calculations and simulations to predict how structures will respond to different demolition techniques.

* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, minimizing the risk of accidents and environmental damage.

* Inspect and report on site progress, documenting key observations and providing technical feedback to site managers and senior project leaders.

* Liaise with contractors, stakeholders, and local authorities to coordinate efforts and secure necessary permits and approvals for demolition activities.

* Use specialized software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD, or other structural analysis tools) to create structural models and simulations.

What We’re Looking For:

* Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Master's degree preferred but not required).

* 5+ years of professional experience in structural engineering, with at least 2 years in demolition or construction environments.

* Proven track record of working on demolition projects, large-scale construction sites, or complex industrial sites.

* Strong understanding of safety regulations, codes, and standards related to demolition (e.g., OSHA, local building codes).

* Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD, etc.).

* Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with a diverse team of professionals.

* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.

* Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.
