Big Ant Recruitment are proud to be working in Partnership with SWISCo to find that right person to join their amazing green infrastructure experts who are well regarded in the Tree industry.

You will be part of Torbay Council who the first local authority to undertake the i-tree ecosystem survey back in 2010 and have been the first local authority to carry out a second i-tree survey. This invaluable data provides the evidence base for our tree management policies in addition to the easily referenced financial worth of the trees to illustrate the value of Torbays trees.

You will be responsible for the ongoing assessing of Torbay Councils tree stock. A wonderful mixture of native and exotic species of varying age ranges a with a tree planting/establishment budget to ensure long term succession tree cover within Torbay. The Victorian legacy planting of both street and parks trees are entering into their mature years where proactive crown management will be required to manage their decline in accordance with our tree risk management strategy.

Opportunities to become involved in specific projects or form part of a wider multi-disciplinary team will be expected. A keen eye for detail and high standards of tree management are key, with a sense of humour.

Key Duties:

To lead on the assessing and auditing of tree works undertaken to ensure the high quality of work throughout Torbay is maintained in accordance with instruction and/or best practice.

To lead on triage and allocation of tasks to the contractor to ensure work prioritisation is fully considered where competing time scales for delivery are present.

To lead on the delivery of assessments and surveys of council owned trees and woodlands, maintaining accurate records using bespoke software for asset capture

To lead on ensuring tree work operations are carried out in the appropriate timescales allocated.

Skills and Effectiveness

Able to work on own initiative proactively and with the minimum of direction

Effective negotiation/influencing skills when dealing with suppliers, (agency), staff and members of the public

Possession of impeccable customer relationship and service skills in order to demonstrate a customer focused approach.

Ability to assess the condition of trees and what impact proposed works would have on their amenity contribution and life expectancy.

Knowledge

Awareness of the contents of all current versions, such as B.S 5837:2012 (Trees in relation to Design, demolition, and Construction - Recommendations), B.S 3998:2010 Tree work - Recommendations European Tree Pruning Guide 2001, NJUG 10 and any other relevant British Standards or Building Research Establishment documents relating to Trees and/or Landscaping.

Practical knowledge and understanding of legislative and statutory obligations which affects the service area of responsibility. Experience

Experience of working in a time critical environment.

Previous experience of working against performance indicators or other performance related targets.

Experience of problem solving to successful outcomes.

Able to demonstrate in-still trust to staff members at all levels, clients/customers, and the general public.

Qualifications

* Professional qualification within the field of the service area at a minimum level 3/4 NVQ/HND.

* Hold QTRA licensed user preferred

* Hold Professional Tree Inspector qualification PTI Lantra preferred.

Full drivers license required
