Estimator - Groundworks

Salary: £55,000 - £90,000
Location: Ashford, London

My client is a privately-owned, independent civil engineering/groundworks contractor. They specialise in groundworks, remediation, reinforced concrete, and general civils.

As an Estimator, you will be responsible for all aspects of the tendering process, from pre-qualification through to tender submission, and then on award, ensuring a smooth handover to the site team.

Your main responsibilities will include:
• Estimating and preparing tender submissions for a range of civil engineering projects.
• Taking off and preparing bills of quantities.
• Working with operational colleagues to establish methodology, programme, resource requirements, etc.
• Working with commercial and procurement colleagues to identify sub-contractor packages, prepare enquiries, and interrogate returns to select suppliers.
• Contributing to the risk review/assessment process where required.
• Participating in meetings, as required. E.g. tender settlement meetings, presentations to clients, tender negotiations, and pre-start meetings.
• Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of operating methods on site and the materials and resources required.
• Supporting and coaching more junior members of the team.

They offer a competitive salary and benefits package, which is negotiable depending on skills and experience.

We would love to hear from you if you have:
• Experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator, preferably for a civil engineering/groundworks contractor, with the ability to prepare tender submissions from first principles.
• Contractual and commercial awareness, with the ability to understand and interpret drawings and other construction information.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build lasting, successful relationships with colleagues, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• A great attention to detail and are accurate and numerate.
• The ability to manage your own workload and achieve demanding deadlines.
