WHAT TO EXPECT
As a Quantity Surveyor at this Electrical contractor, you will play a critical role in managing the financial and contractual aspects of diverse projects, from small domestic jobs to large-scale commercial installations. You will work closely with Project Managers and the wider operational team to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, within budget, and meet both company and client expectations.
As the sole Quantity Surveyor, your expertise in cost control, procurement, and contract management will directly contribute to the success of each project. Familiarity with software such as Ground Plan for estimating take-offs and SimPro for project tracking is advantageous. However, full training will be provided if required.
QUANTITY SURVEYOR - KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Cost Management
* Prepare accurate cost estimates and budgets for projects ranging from £500k to £1m.
* Work with Project Managers to ensure budgets align with project scopes and client expectations.
* Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to maximise profitability.
Procurement and Supplier Management
* Source and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure the best value.
* Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
* Maintain strong relationships with vendors and ensure compliance with procurement policies.
Contract Administration
* Review, negotiate, and manage client and subcontractor contracts.
* Handle project variations, providing clear communication with Project Managers and clients.
* Ensure all contracts meet legal and industry compliance standards.
Financial Monitoring and Risk Mitigation
* Track project expenses and provide regular updates to Project Managers and the Managing Director.
* Proactively identify financial risks, such as potential cost overruns or unfavourable contract terms, and develop mitigation strategies.
* Assist Project Managers in managing variations and cost adjustments effectively.
* Prepare interim valuations, final accounts, and financial reports for all projects.
Software
* Use SimPro to assist with job tracking, financial reporting, and project management.
* Use Ground Plan to carry out accurate take-offs for project estimating.
* Training in SimPro and Ground Plan will be provided if required.
Team Collaboration and Communication
* As the sole Quantity Surveyor, you will act as a key point of contact between Project Managers, site teams, and the Managing Director for all financial and contractual matters.
* Attend project meetings to provide updates on costs, contracts, progress, and risk management.
* Proactively identify challenges and work with Project Managers to find cost-effective solutions.
