Job Summary:
As a Brokerage Clerk, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth processing of import and export shipments by managing and organizing documentation, tracking shipments, and assisting in the clearance of goods through customs. You will work closely with customs officials, brokers, and customers to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and timely delivery of goods. This position requires a keen attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Documentation Management: Prepare and review import/export documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with customs regulations.
Customs Clearance: Assist in the preparation and submission of customs declarations, coordinating with brokers and customs officials to facilitate the clearance of shipments.
Shipment Tracking: Monitor and track the status of shipments, providing updates to clients and internal teams, and resolving any issues that may arise during transit.
Data Entry: Accurately input shipment information into the company's database, maintaining up-to-date records for all transactions.
Customer Service: Respond to customer inquiries related to customs clearance, documentation requirements, and shipment status, providing timely and accurate information.
Compliance: Stay informed about changes in customs regulations and international trade laws, ensuring that all shipments comply with current policies and procedures.
Problem Solving: Identify and resolve any discrepancies in shipment documentation, working proactively to avoid delays in the customs clearance process.
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including logistics, operations, and customer service, to ensure seamless handling of shipments from origin to destination.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in international trade, logistics, or a related field is a plus.
Experience: Previous experience in customs brokerage, logistics, or a similar role is preferred but not required.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Familiarity with customs regulations and international trade laws is an advantage.
Other Requirements:
Ability to work flexible hours, including potential overtime during peak periods.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
