About the School
It is a small, independent SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Shelton, Staffordshire, dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for secondary-age students with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
They help students who may have faced challenges in traditional education settings to re-engage, develop, and achieve their very best outcomes. There curriculum is broad and balanced, offering a mix of core subjects, including GCSEs, BTECs, and functional skills, as well as a variety of adventurous subjects such as water sports, mountain biking, archery, and horse-riding.
Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Science or Mathematics teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will help inspire and support our students in their learning journey, using engaging and effective teaching methods that focus on both academic achievement and personal growth. This role will be temporary, with the potential to become permanent based on performance and school needs.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging lessons to ensure progression in students’ learning, with a focus on science or mathematics.
Help engage students in both reading and writing activities, developing their literacy skills alongside their subject knowledge.
Create a structured environment for lessons, maintaining a pace that keeps students motivated and challenged, while providing clear expectations for their learning.
Ensure a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere that fosters confidence, security, and a sense of purpose in all students.
Contribute to the development of the curriculum, particularly for our secondary students, ensuring that it is accessible, challenging, and relevant to their needs.
Provide a nurturing environment for students with SEND, helping them develop the skills and confidence to succeed academically and personally.
Our Ideal candidate will have:
A passion for working with students with SEND and a deep commitment to helping them overcome barriers to learning.
Expertise in Science or Mathematics, with a strong understanding of how to make these subjects accessible and engaging for secondary-age students.
The ability to create and maintain a safe and positive learning environment that encourages student participation and academic progress.
Experience in planning and delivering lessons that challenge students while catering to their individual needs and learning styles.
A nurturing approach that helps students feel secure and supported in their learning journey.
