About Us: We are excited to announce the opening of a brand-new nursery in the heart of Ham, Surrey, in February 2025. Our nursery will provide a warm, homely environment where every child is nurtured, supported and encouraged to thrive. We will create a space where the wellbeing of children is at the forefront, focusing on their happiness, development and emotional needs. Our approach is centred around providing a calm, comfortable atmosphere where children can explore, learn and grow at their own pace.
Position Overview: The Deputy Nursery Manager will play a key role in supporting the overall operation of the nursery, working closely with the Nursery Manager to ensure the highest standards of care and education are maintained. This is a hands-on leadership role, where the Deputy Manager will take responsibility for managing a small, dedicated team of staff and helping to create a nurturing and welcoming environment for both children and their families.
As a Deputy Manager, you will be expected to be a positive role model, leading by example and maintaining a child-centred approach in everything you do. You will be actively involved in the day-to-day running of the nursery, ensuring that all children receive the best care and education, whilst also supporting the professional development of your team. Your leadership will help ensure the nursery operates smoothly and is compliant with all regulatory standards and policies.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the recruitment, training, and development of nursery staff.
Lead by example, maintaining a positive, child-focused and inclusive atmosphere at all times.
Take charge of the nursery in the absence of the Nursery Manager, ensuring smooth operations.
Childcare and Education:
Ensure the welfare, safety and happiness of all children attending the nursery.
Support the development and implementation of the nursery's curriculum, ensuring it meets the individual needs of each child.
Assist in planning and delivering age-appropriate activities that support children's development across all areas, including communication, social skills, physical development and emotional well-being.
Observe, assess and record children's progress and share relevant information with parents and carers.
Promote and implement safeguarding policies, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all children.
Staff Development and Support:
Provide guidance and support to nursery staff, offering advice on best practices and professional development opportunities.
Monitor staff performance and support regular team meetings and one-on-one supervision sessions.
Encourage a collaborative team spirit and contribute to a positive working environment.
Ensure that staff are kept up to date with relevant training, including safeguarding and first aid.
Administrative Duties:
Assist with the management of children’s records, including attendance, medical needs and any specific care plans.
Ensure all paperwork and documentation is kept up to date and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Support the Nursery Manager in managing nursery budgets, ordering supplies and maintaining resources.
Help with the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure the nursery adheres to all legal and regulatory standards (e.g. Ofsted, EYFS, Health & Safety).
Parent and Community Engagement:
Build strong, positive relationships with parents and carers, offering regular updates on their child’s development and wellbeing.
Encourage parental involvement in nursery activities and events, creating a welcoming environment for families.
Act as a point of contact for parents, addressing any concerns or queries in a professional and empathetic manner. Key Skills and Qualifications:
