St George's is recruiting to the Principal Occupational Therapist role for the multidisciplinary therapy team in Senior Health and Medicine and the occupational therapy service in Cardiology and Renal inpatients.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic and flexible occupational therapist with clinical leadership experience and advanced assessment and rehabilitation skills in the management of frailty and/or complex medical long-term conditions. You will provide clinical leadership and operational management of the multidisciplinary therapy team in senior health and medicine. As part of your role, you will provide clinical supervision to the band 7 OTs in senior health, medicine, cardiology and renal inpatients.

You will work closely with other Principal Therapists including the Principal Therapist in the ED and AMU, inpatient cardiorespiratory and neurosciences Principal PTs and OTs and Community Team Leads to ensure high quality evidence-based inpatient therapy provision and a safe and a timely discharge. This role also has strong working relationships with OPAL, the ward MDTs, neighbouring community health, social services, and the voluntary sector.

You will participate in the seven-day Enhanced Weekend Rehabilitation and Discharge service on the medical and senior health wards enabling safe and timely discharge (1 in 6-8 weekends).With strong links with the Southwest London AHP Faulty and St Georges University, there are opportunities to promote the occupational therapy profession and contribute to developing occupational therapists of the future including apprenticeships, clinical placements, preceptorship and advanced clinical practitioner roles.

  • Degree/ Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to the clinical field
  • Commitment to advanced clinical and professional development

Desirable

  • Recognised post graduate qualification (E.g. MSc, PG Dip)
  • Leadership Training
  • Post graduate management training
  • Working at 'M' level as demonstrated by on-going CPD including 'M' level accreditation, lecturing on 'M' level courses and research/publication s and equivalent experience
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Group with the College of Occupational Therapists

Experience
Essential

  • Minimum of 1 year's NHS experience (can include undergraduate experience)
  • A minimum of 6 years post graduate experience with at least 2 years in acute care at Band 7 level (medical and geriatric medicine patients) covering rehabilitation and general acute medical / geriatric beds, A& E or equivalent experience in a rapid response team
  • Broad range of experience at junior,band 6 and band 7 levels of a wide range of approaches to the management of rehabilitation patients. Highly specialist knowledge and experience in acute medicine or geriatric medicine demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning
  • Experience of undertaking clinical audit
  • Experience in interpreting and implementing evidence based practice
  • Experience of managing and supervising a multi - professional therapy team including the full spectrum of daily line management, clinical supervision, management of attendance (annual leave, sickness etc) performance management and organizing cover
  • Experience of teaching and training in the work place
  • Experience of student supervision/ clinical education
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working
  • Has experience of using goal setting, outcome measure and standardised assessments
