Position: Manufacturing Engineer (Automation)

Reports to: Engineering Director


Role Overview: Based at our Tallington site, the Manufacturing Engineer will identify, develop scope, specify, and implement operational and transactional performance improvement and Automation projects to improve customer service, reduce manufacturing costs and reduce lead times. Realization of advanced manufacturing processes and technologies including robotics and automation. Management & Support of ERP manufacturing master data, process, and system maintenance. The successful candidate will be responsible for:


Key Accountabilities:

  • Project leadership and management of business improvement projects and installations.
  • Automation specialist for UK & Ireland site locations
  • Analyse current manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for automation and AI integration.
  • Conceptualisation, development and installation of automation.
  • Time study and process improvements through standard work and maintenance of ERP system data to ensure planning and manufacturing accuracy and efficiency.
  • ERP support for UK & Ireland and wider Europe site locations.
  • Business improvement ideas generation and OPEX
  • Lean Principles implementations
  • Project Management, Gantt chart and Gateway review and relevant contractor management.
  • CX preparation and submission and management.
  • Technical support of project & NPI implementations.


Associated Responsibilities:

  • Support of all engineering related activities as required by the Engineering Director
  • Provision of works instructions, training material etc as per all new or modified processes
  • Process trouble shooting / Development– ERP system and production.
  • Other projects as defined appropriate including CRH based projects and initiatives.
  • Willingness to travel between sites where required.


Experience and Training:

  • Automation design and installation experience.
  • Robotic systems design, program, and implementation.
  • Lean Manufacturing Concepts and implementation.
  • Candidates must be technically advanced with the ability to manage complexity, communicate effectively and work collaboratively.
  • High Level Experience in use of ERP systems.
  • Experience in Project Management.
  • High level IT skills including proficiency in full MS Office suite, Adobe Pro, Advanced Excel an understanding of, and ability to utilise, digital communications tools such as email and intranets.
  • Knowledge of Value Stream Mapping.
  • SQL database Queries.
  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0 principles is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of AI and integration of AI into automation is desirable.
  • Knowledge if PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and robotic programming is desirable.
  • Experience in CAD/CAM software and industrial automation tools is desirable.
  • Experience in Use of Key Data Analysis tools and software – Power BI is desirable.


Essential Criteria:

  • Candidates must be educated to Degree level, or equivalent, in an engineering discipline (Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering).
  • Candidates must have 3 years’ experience working within an Engineering field within a busy manufacturing environment.
