Senior Cover Supervisor Role in London

Teaching Personnel are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Cover Supervisor to join an outstanding secondary school in London.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervise lessons for absent teachers, ensuring a smooth learning environment.
  2. Allocate, explain and oversee cover work set, providing support and guidance as needed.
  3. Report any deficiencies in cover work to the relevant Cover Manager, highlighting areas for improvement.
  4. Offer assistance to students in completing cover work, promoting a supportive learning atmosphere.
  5. Follow the academy's behaviour management and referral systems, maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
  6. Organise the day's lessons efficiently, ensuring a seamless transition between activities.
  7. Perform administrative or student support duties as directed by the line manager or Vice Principal.
  8. Occasionally supervise post-16 students in their study base, providing guidance and support.
  9. Take registers in all lessons, promptly reporting any in-lesson absences.
  10. Liaise with teachers to ensure high-quality cover lessons, promoting collaboration and effective communication.

Requirements

  1. Qualifications to A Level standard or equivalent.
  2. Knowledge of strategies to recognise and reward efforts and achievements towards self-reliance, tailored to the age and development stage of the students.
  3. Basic knowledge of SEN and other learning barriers.
  4. Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  5. Relevant experience in successfully supervising groups of children aged 11-16.
  6. Previous experience in a school or comparable large organisation.
  7. Understanding of a secondary school environment, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  8. Ability to provide high-quality cover, within agreed parameters, in the absence of the class teacher.
  9. Ability to consistently and effectively implement agreed behaviour management strategies.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively with students, using language and communication skills that they can understand and relate to.
