Tyre Fitter Technician

The role of a Wheel Lathe Technician at Hitachi Rail involves maintaining and repairing rolling stock assets, as well as operating and maintaining the wheel lathe. This is a permanent position working on a rotating shift basis.
Key Responsibilities:- Prepare for and undertake planned maintenance on the wheel lathe and ancillary equipment.
- Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications.
- Provide operational support to fleet staff if lathe duties permit.
- Prepare for and undertake planned and some unplanned defect maintenance on Hitachi rolling stock assets.
- Identify, assess and rectify defects and discrepancies on Hitachi rolling stock assets.
The ideal candidate will have an M&E ONC or served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines, and engineering-based NVQ level 3. Intermediate IT skills and experience with milling, turning, CNC, or similar are also desired.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to start their career in rail, as no railway experience is required for this role. The salary for this position is £41,908 per annum, plus a 15% shift allowance and £3,000 location allowance.
