Nurse Specialist in Pediatric Hematology

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Nurse Specialist to join our team at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering specialist clinical nursing, advice, and support to children, young people, and their families with cancer, predominantly focusing on patients with a diagnosis of leukaemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), aplastic anaemia, haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), and other rare diseases associated with a predisposition for a blood cancer.
Main Responsibilities:- Deliver specialist clinical nursing, advice, and support to children, young people, and their families with cancer.
- Act as a specialist resource for all professional staff within the Trust, both in the hospital and within the community.
- Work alongside Nurse Specialists in promoting good practice in the treatment and care of children and young people with cancer.
- Participate in the education and training of parents/carers and other professionals.
- Help undertake research and audit to support the development of the service.
- Contribute toward the development of strong networks with local, regional, and national voluntary and statutory bodies, in order to provide individually tailored high-quality care.
- Minimum 3 years post-registration experience.
- Minimum 2 years current clinical experience of working with children and young people with cancer.
- Undergraduate Degree or working towards.
- Awareness of clinical governance issues in relation to practice.
- Ability to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop multi-disciplinary teamwork across all care settings.
- Demonstrate ability to pass on expertise and knowledge to others.
- Ability to demonstrate effective clinical skills in relation to the care of children or young people with cancer.
- Teaching/mentoring qualification or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of cancer service specifications and other documents relevant to children's cancer care delivery.
- Childhood cancer module.
- Good understanding of research and audit.
- Advanced communication skills.
