About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Communications Business Partnering Manager to join our Strategic Communications team within the Scottish Communications Directorate. This role will support our engineering and asset management, property, and strategy teams in showcasing the importance of our rail infrastructure.

As a key member of our team, you will develop and implement communications and engagement strategies to support projects such as the redevelopment of Glasgow Central Station and the management of iconic structures like the Forth Bridge and the Glenfinnan Viaduct.

This role involves out-of-hours and on-call working, with regular travel around Scotland. We operate a hybrid and flexible working model, with a minimum of two days required on-site each week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, drive, and implement communications plans to support business objectives and drive performance.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to support their internal and external communications goals.
  • Manage announcements, briefings, and events for the function, including monitoring comments and preparing responses to enhance employee engagement.
  • Manage processes, quality standards, and operational systems to ensure effective functional communications.
  • Develop content and materials to promote business-critical initiatives and monitor the effectiveness of communications.
  • Coach, advise, and challenge senior leaders on the impact of their communications and how they contribute to functional objectives.
  • Lead, support, and contribute to change programmes, driving and championing the implementation of communications solutions.
  • Liaise with Communications Business Partners in other areas of the business to work collaboratively on cross-business and geographical communications.
Requirements
  • Educated to degree level or a professional communications qualification.
  • Excellent written and spoken communications skills.
  • Customer service mindset and collaborative approach.
  • Evidence of managing internal communications in a large organisation, including developing and delivering multi-disciplinary communication programmes.
  • Experience of working in partnership with senior leaders, coaching, and influencing them to deliver effective messaging.
  • Proven ability to grasp, understand, and promote complex and sensitive issues in a persuasive and sensible way.
  • Knowledge and understanding of new and innovative best practice communications to drive engagement and shape culture.
  • Ability to shape and deliver key messages to various audiences and their individual needs.
  • Experience of managing a team.
  • Proven track record of operating in a complex working environment and managing ambiguity.
Desirable Skills
  • Office 365 experience.
  • Video editing experience.
  • Understanding of project management principles and experience of managing complex projects to successful conclusion.
  • Experience of working within a unionised environment and/or regulated sector.
