This role is responsible for supporting the Buyer in the Tech and Toys department, ensuring thorough knowledge of products and market trends. Key responsibilities include negotiating terms with suppliers, forging strong partnerships with brand partners, and working closely with the Buying Manager to ensure commercial decisions drive sales and profit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Buyer in sourcing brands and products for the Tech and Toys department
  • Negotiate the best possible terms with suppliers, including margin, trade discounts, and markdown support
  • Forge strong partnerships with brand partners to drive sales and profit
  • Work closely with the Buying Manager to ensure commercial decisions are based on a sound framework
  • Monitor and review trade in season, making recommendations to the Buyer and Head of Buying
  • Support the Buyers Admin with weekly trade packs and present key findings to Senior stakeholders
  • Assist with range planning, working closely with the Merchandiser and Buyer/Head of Buying
  • Work with the Merchandiser to analyse performance and make recommendations to the Buyer
  • Communicate effectively with retail operations teams, particularly with regard to new season launches and product training
  • Work closely with Marketing and PR to be aware of promotional opportunities during negotiations with suppliers
  • Be responsible for re-ordering, working within the OTB structure, and ensuring decisions are communicated to the Administrator
  • Carry out research into key trends and put together look books for the area
  • Supervise the wider team and monitor workload, where relevant
  • Work closely with VM to ensure product placement optimises the look and performance of the department
  • Ensure effective communication with retail operations teams, particularly with regard to new season launches and product training

About You:

  • Highly knowledgeable with a well-developed understanding of the product/market
  • Buying experience required, with a strong analytical skills and experience driving long-term and profitable commercial strategies
  • Engaging, able to influence stakeholders, retail and brands, and use data and market trends to drive commercial opportunities
  • Customer-focused, with exceptional taste and instinct, able to push boundaries to offer new and exciting product
  • Numerate, with a highly commercial approach, and proficient in Excel
  • Collaborative, working flexibly as part of the wider Buying team, and supporting projects and cross-functional meetings as appropriate
  • Organised, with attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence, and an example of our values, a trusted and respected colleague
