We are committed to improving lives, and that is our promise to our employees and communities. Our company is built on values of safety, honour and commitment. We call our cultural mindset Our Energy in Action, which we define through four simple, intuitive behaviours:

  • Our employees are the heart of our success, and there is a reason why we continue to attract great talent and it's not just the excellent benefits package, or the opportunities for personal growth, it's also the caring and committed culture of the organisation that makes everyone feel like they can bring their authentic self to work and be truly part of our team.

Are you a motivated and proactive student looking for a challenging industrial placement? We are looking for a science, preferably chemistry, student to join us for a one-year industrial placement starting in July 2025 working in a fast-paced industrial laboratory that supports a large oil refinery.

Your time will be spent gaining valuable experience working within the laboratory environment and also outside on the plant. You will be responsible for testing of intermediate and finished products, both gases and liquids, using a variety of instrumentation in the Gas Chromatography laboratory. In addition to sample analysis, chromatograph interpretation, and troubleshooting, the role also involves sample collection both on and offsite.

You will be required to work an 8-hour shift pattern during the week of Monday to Friday – mornings - 06:30 to 15:00 / afternoons 14:00 to 22.30, and 12-hour days one weekend in three from 0700 to 19:00 hours.

We are looking for a student who will have completed at least their 2nd year of a chemistry related degree and are on course to achieve a minimum grade of 2:2.

Please note that for the duration of the placement the successful candidate will not be employed directly by Phillips 66 but by a local employment agency.

We really value previous work experience gained through industrial summer placements, internships, and work experience.

  • Self-organising to meet deadlines and deliver on projects.
  • Opportunity to get real industrial experience with responsibility and accountability.
  • Opportunity to become part of our Early Careers Network and take part in fun, informative and social activities.

Free daily lunch whilst working on site. Free accommodation for the first 6 weeks of your placement so you can get to know the area and other students.

A competitive salary ranging between £24,900 and £28,100 per annum pro rata dependent on level of study completed. In addition to salary, a shift payment of £5,550 will also be paid.

Our assessment days will be held at our Humber Refinery and may include an overnight stay and may include dinner with some of the team.
