The Diagnostic Cardiology group in Edinburgh is responsible for developing new products and updating existing ones across a portfolio of electronic medical devices, application software, and associated accessories.

The Senior Development Engineer position is a challenging role that requires full contribution to all aspects of development on existing and new ranges of medical equipment, working to tight commercial schedules with minimal supervision. The Senior Development Engineer will take a leading role within project teams, supporting project managers and junior engineers. While an interest in medical devices is beneficial, a background in embedded software and electronics is more crucial.

Responsibilities
  • Coaching and mentoring junior engineers
  • Supporting functional and project managers with planning and progress reporting
  • Designing and programming embedded firmware using C# /.NET
  • Utilizing circuit simulation packages
  • Developing low power electronics for new and existing medical devices
Requirements
  • Degree qualified with at least 5 years' experience in a product design environment
  • A proven ability to communicate and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Microprocessor firmware development experience for low power devices
  • A solid analytical and practical understanding of fundamental electronic theory
  • Experience in both analogue and digital design through full product lifecycles
  • A high degree of self-motivation, attention to detail, and ability to investigate technical concepts and problems in depth
Desirable Skills
  • Design and implementation of digital filters
  • Interfacing with other devices via Bluetooth and USB
  • Development of test harness and tools using C# /.NET
  • Use of circuit simulation packages
  • Schematic capture and PCB design for small form-factor products
  • ISO 13485 or similar quality systems
  • IEC 60601 family / IEC 62304 standards
