Design and Technology Technician

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Design and Technology Technician to join our team at a dynamic and forward-thinking secondary school in Rochdale. As a key member of our Design Technology Department, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of the Design Technology curriculum and maintaining high standards of practical education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up equipment and materials for practical lessons in areas such as woodwork, metalwork, electronics, and graphics.
  • Maintain and repair tools and machinery, ensuring all equipment is in safe working order.
  • Assist teachers during practical lessons, offering technical support and guidance to students.
  • Manage stock levels of materials and order supplies as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting regular checks and risk assessments.
  • Support the development of students' practical skills and foster a safe and productive workshop environment.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Design Technology Department.

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience as a technician or in a similar role, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of a range of materials and processes used in Design Technology.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • A proactive approach to health and safety, with the ability to conduct risk assessments and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A passion for supporting young people and contributing to their educational development.
